Review NaN of , from San Diego, CA, USA

Price Paid:  $250.00 from 3-D in Santee, CA

Summary:
A two disc full featured medium cost player. This unit was put in a vacation home and played very little. It was unplugged when we were not at the home.

Strengths:
It is a unit that allows the user to pass up the previews etc. through chapter forward. Most units will not allow this and put a slash-circle on the screen making you watch the ads. This unit would also let me go directly to the second episode in a multi episode disc like the Sopranos. Neither my Awiai, Panasonic not Sanyo will let me do this.

Weaknesses:
Electronic board failed at eight months (about 12 discs played), repaired in eight long weeks under warranty. Turntable failed after eighteen months (about 40 discs played) and unit was thrown out.

Review NaN of , from Defiance,Ohio,United States

Price Paid:  $270.00 from Sam`s Club

Summary:
This product is a waste of your money I advise not getting it. The gears are almost all striped but otherwise it worked fine besides all the constant freezing.

Review NaN of , from burlington, canada

Price Paid:  $250.00 from toshiba factory sale

Summary:
i had an older toshiba sd-2109 and was happy with that player but i needed a built in dolby digital processor for my nakamichi av-1s. very satisfied with this machine-very good picture and sound quality of this modest priced player. built in dolby digital chip certainly not as good as the high end chips found in top flight av receivers, but dd sound for movies is fairly good. light weight so you think it might be "cheap" or unreliable, but i have had no problems so far(knock wood) my old sd-2109 worked very well with no problems so i'm used to the toshiba quality. this player does everything very well. my old player is at my brother in-laws house.

Strengths:
very good picture and sound from an inexpensive player. built in dolby digital decoder is ok. easy to use

Weaknesses:
have to go into the sound menu everytime you switch from dvd to cd. out of the box, had to take to factory for firmware update

Review NaN of , from Riverside , CA

Price Paid:  $225.00 from Best Buy of course

Summary:
Overall the only reason I would buy a new dvd player is if this one just plain exploded and died.
I give it an A+ !

Strengths:
Output options are king. S-video, Dolby digital built in, progressive scan , 2 speaker audio. Can't beat all the options. This DVD player is great for the novice to the videophile. The dual tray is the best idea since Dolby 5.1!
When I got this dvd a few years ago I wasn't sure what I would use the 2nd tray fro. ALAS , my 4 year old!!! He can turn on Tarzan or Toy Story or whatever is loaded in the 2nd tray and NEVER TOUCHES MY EQUIPMENT. Just gotta wipe off the remote every week to remove the pb&j. The Dolby digital decoder is tops. The sound is incredible. I'm running Infinity Studio Monitor 12" , JBL center (awesome) and Bose 201 in the rear. (301's had too much bass for the rear) and a Yamaha powered subwoofer for the boom. I couldn't be happier with performance of the zoom and multi-angle features. Have not used the HDCD so no opinion yet on that. Sounds like DVD-audio is taking over anyways.

Weaknesses:
Remote control is not backlit and the toggle/joystick for the menu navigation does not alwats register with the unit. You have to move the joystick 2 sometimes 3 times for the unit the recognize your request. (new batteries does not solve this problem)

Review NaN of , from Victoria, Canada

Price Paid:  $250.00 from A+B Sound

Summary:
Well this unit has treated me great for the past year. I have not seen any of the others complaints in my unit, ie joystick hard to figure out, confusing instructions, banding on screen etc. What I do know is that this is a good unit with good sound quality and picture quality. I find the remote simple and easy to use, and as for the instruction manual, if I had a pet chimp I would have let him set it up. Everything has a logical order and the rear panel is open and uncluttered. The only one bad thing that I can say about this unit is the lack of navigation controls on the front, if I lose the remote I'm F#$%ed.

Strengths:
Twin tray, great for the Godfather series! HDCD, lot's of extras.

Weaknesses:
Outdated (not progressive scan)
