Review NaN of

Price Paid:  $379.00 from Tweeter

Summary:
For coming out just before DVD took off like wildfire, this has been a very capable machine. It has been coupled with a Yamaha RX-V995 since day 1 and the sound quality has been suberb. I have had this player for 5 years now and the quality is the same since I bought it. Componant outputs are big plus in video quality. I recently upgraded to Toshiba's SD-4800 for progressive scan and DVD-Audio, but the 2108 will still be used in another room. Toshiba makes durable products and has great customer service.

Strengths:
Good picture quality over time using componant outs.
Excellent remote

Weaknesses:
slight pauses on some duel-layered disks
unable to play DVD-R or VCD

Similar Products Used:
Toshiba SD-4800, Samsung C631P, Yamaha DVD

Review NaN of , from toronto, on, canada

Summary:
This player has developed two problems, although it is difficult to tell if they were there all along.

1)Note DVD is mated to 4:3 HDTV-Ready with 16:9 compress capability.

On some movies the DVD player will cause the TV to switch back to 4:3 from 16:9 when watching anamorphic movies. The problem is repeatable. It happens on certain disc at certain scenes.

2) Memory function only works for CD's, not DVD's.

I recently tested a loaner-new-out-of-box SD 2200. It did not exhibit these problems. The menus were faster and the picture looked better (TV is ISF calibrated).

Strengths:
Good overall entry level DVD player of it's time. Has played all discs, but not flawlessly. See Review Summary.

Weaknesses:
Slow chapter skip

Review NaN of , from Syracuse

Price Paid:  $205.00 from www.ebay.com

Summary:
i give it a perfect score. Ofcoarse i would of never got it if I didn't find it on ebay for $205.00!!! About $300 less than retail!!!

Strengths:
This is my first dvd player and probably my last for a long time. This machine is simply perfect for playing dvds. Don't take it from me, look at all the reviews of this product on other sites besides this one. This is the only site i've seen so far that doesn't give it a perfect overall rating. The sound and picture are amazing, and so is the price. What more could any consumer ask of dvd player

Weaknesses:
none that i can see yet.

Review NaN of , from China Hong Kong

Summary:
I tried to play the "Independance day" on this machine but it can't even reconize the disk I put in is a DVD. I don't know if it is the defect of the machine or it is because of the new feature they put in to this DVD. This is very strange becaue all my friends the are able to watch this DVD film with no problem at all. My friends are using some other brand of DVD play!
