Strength:

Pretty good player. I bought the RV 32 by panasonic in the down time. This player is better than the TOSHIBA though.

Weakness:

No optical audio output. With all the wires in the back, even

Good Player. Konked out on me after 3 years of heavy use. (At least 2 to 3 times a day on average). I tried the quick fix that the other guy mentioned about pulling the threads out of the laser and re inserting them. IT WORKED!!!

Strength:

3D sound

Weakness:

cables can work loose

I also had the problem where the player would refuse to play any disk. This occurred after about 2 years of use. It was a very easy fix, so I am posting this to help people in a similar situation. Take the cover off and then take the secondary cover (over the laser) off. Open and the close the disk tray. You should see the laser glow bright red for about 2sec. while the motor runs. If you don't see the laser light up(like me), pull the ribbon-style cable out of the connector both at the laser and the board. Then reinsert the cable ends. That's all it took for me. Works great now!

Strength:

Very impressed with picture and sound (while it worked)

Weakness:

Will not read any DVD movies after only 2 years of very light use.

I got this DVD player as a wedding gift, and recently just crapped out on me. The player refuses to read any DVD disc I put in it now, which from reading some of the review's for this player I guess I should not be suprised! Customer service at Toshiba was worthless, and I suggest you all that have had this problem write a letter to Toshiba, as I did. They need to know that this player is crap and they need to do something about it!

Strength:

Easy to set up. Good intro product. Nice dim feature on screen.

Weakness:

Short life span for a product from a quality company. They sound get a new assembler.

Decent overall performance, but as many people have said the system seems to have 'break down after X months' code build into its firmware. I had it the first 8 months w/ no problems. Since then it has developed a high pick whine - I am taking it to my Audo store next week to have (hopefully) corrected with a little elbow and electronics grease. I am starting to look to upgrade, but expect (depending on fixing the whine) that that will be another 6 mo.s.

Weakness:

Complicated remore and poor performance. A waste of money.

Piece of crap. Fuses kept blowing after about 15 hours of play. Had difficult time getting warrenty coverage fron Toshiba, plus they were slow at responding to e-mails, faxes, and phone calls. Local repair shops did not support the model well and suggested other brands as more servicable.

Strength:

Great player for 2 years...

Weakness:

Took a crap after 2 years of use. No longer read dual layer discs. Remote sucks, no cdr/cdrw support..

This is an ammendment to my previous review. After a few more months of use, my Toshiba decided to stop reading dual layer discs. At first it was JUST Sixth Sense Vista Series. I would have to power on and off a couple times, then it would work... Then it just worked it''s way through my collection. I was down to about 10 out of the 100 I own that would play. So I took her down to the pawn shop and sold her for $40. Not too bad for a 2 year old player that will only play single layer discs. I now own a Panasonic RV31K. Great player, and you can read my review on it. Very similar to the Toshiba in all aspects (including the remote from hell). Not saying that Toshiba is crap. The player was fine for 2 years (and that problem with the Dogma disc stopped about 2 months before it took a crap). I''m just going to stay weary from Toshiba for awhile... I still think they make a great product, just gonna wait awhile before I buy another one. I hope to not have to buy another player until I am able to go HD, when that happens, I will DEFINATELY go with a Toshiba Progressive Scan unit. They are the best in that aspect IMHO. I still think it was a great product. For it to last 2 years is great (seeing as DVD is still new, and there are still issues to work out), and I still say that this was a great player.

Worked fine while it was under warranty. Right after the warranty ended, it quit reading CDs at all, and now skips terribly when changing layers in DVDs. Often, it skips for no reason on DVDs.
