Strengths:    Brand name

Weaknesses:    Lasted only 1 1/2 years before dying

Bottom Line:
Lasted about 1 1/2 years, then no disc errors regardles of whether I played a DVD or Cd. Unfortunatly, I bought another Sony, only to have it die with the same no disc errors. Called SOny, and they stated they had no known issues with their dvd plyers dying. Beware. I won't be buying another Sony DVD player.

Strengths:    Ease of use and overall quality.

Weaknesses:    none

Bottom Line:
I have had the Sony 530d model for 3 years now and have encounted my first problem which was very minor. The value in the Sony far excedes any other DVD player I could find for the money. The operation is smooth and the on screen programming is very clear.

Strengths:    Nice user interface, good quality on clean discs

Weaknesses:    Lip sync problem, Disc dirty problem

Bottom Line:
I used this product for 2+ years. It always had the infamous lip sync problem, but in the last year I have been able to play less and less discs with it, as it keeps on telling me the disc is dity.
This happens now on BRAND NEW discs also....Many friends of mine have reported similar problems with their Sony players (regardless of model), so I am attributing this to poor design of the Sony engineers....
Hence the one-star rating.. I wish I didn't have to do this, because I have always been happy with Sony products, but players that have these problems, should have been recalled....
Two thumbs down to Sony for this one.

Strengths:    DTS works fine.

Weaknesses:    Sometime it lost sound even for a new DVD disk, but play again would be fine.
Never get a full screen on a 4:3 TV, all 3 modes it has does not work with my TV SONY 36" XBR200.
Does not play Super VCD disks and CD-R disks. VCD picture is very poor if the VCD disk is dirty, I think it do not have any data correction ability at all.

Bottom Line:
It is too expensive for a machine as this one which has so many limitations.
