Review NaN of , from Utah

Price Paid:  $377.00 from onecall

Summary:
Disc Changers by there very nature can be complicated but Sony has done an excellent job in making the 875p the most intuitive and well organized recever on the market. The onscreen program is very easy to understand and set up is quisck and easy. Loading the discs is simple and uncomplicated and tha ability of the 875p to categorize the discs is excellent. The picture quality of the progressive scan is excellent and the audio quality is on par with the best players. I have owned the the Kenwood 5900 400 disc palyer and the only good thing about the kenwood is the picture quality.

Strengths:
Navigation system, picture ,Sound, and asthectics- Excellent multi disc player

Weaknesses:
None

Review NaN of , from PG, UT, USA

Price Paid:  $385.00 from Ebay (authorized Son

Summary:
I purchaed this unit as most of my gear is Sony. My Sony 400 disk changer is flawless. I loaded it up adn it promptly loaded 2 dvd's into the play slot. Called sony and I took it in to get serviced, they could not find any cause and reset the load mech timing etcetera adn gave it back. I then took it home and it promptly did it again, took it back and they replaced the entire loading mechanism, took it home last night, loaded the DVDs adn it double loaded (the third time) within 40 minutes of pushing the load DVD's button. In talking to the local service provider they said that teh problem as they see it is there is a "clamper" that usually grabs the DCD or CD in one of these and this unit does not have one. probably due to the lack of space. with my 4oo disk cd changer teh laser and mechanism hang off the back making a really deep player. WIth this one probably because SOny felt teh need to load both from the back of the doughnut of DVDs adn the front in order to play 2 sided DVDs they put the mech in the middle and it can load front sides from the front and the back sides from the back of the player. The DVD changer unlike a CD player really can use this on the 2 sided models. By the wway the DVD coming out and hitting the door is what is supposed to happen on this one, it pushes a little rubber band track under the edge of teh dvd that lifts adn pulls and wedges the dvd against the door. It is kind of strange but I think if you have a dvd without a perfectly smooth edge or if you handle them with greasy hands from the edge this could prevent proper loading. I like the PS2 keyboard option and use a wireless one to enter the names (invaluable) and with a Pronto remote the info it keeps doesn't seem to be a problem. Would be nice to further have teh ability to catalog. I am sure the reason its panel does not display the names is due to the fact all the info can be seen on the TV. If they fix teh load mech this would be a really nice player, as it stands I am gonna trade it in and wait for teh 880.

Strengths:
Menu on screen, PS2 keyboard capability.

Weaknesses:
Load process/mech, no clampers...

Review NaN of , from so cal

Price Paid:  $499.00 from goodguys

Summary:
first of all i have about 270 dvds/cds,so i thought i could really use this unit, menu system wasn`t too bad, after trial and error,it took me about two hours or more to load all disks and it took me about 9 hours to title about 100 discs,go figure, after about 9 hours of loading and playing unit did not respond to some of the functions,i tried to eject but the door would not open but it kept trying to push the disk out hitting the closed door several times before stopping and i could not title any more discs so i turned the unit off and on again that solved the problem also a-z sort lost its memory?,when you want to play another disc the carasel turns about three quarters then returns to play disc which seems like forever time wise, you can`t search for the next disc on the menu unless you stop play this also takes forever, when you press menu you only see track #/track time, you can`t look for any cd or dvd until you press stop, screw the menu you`d be better off writing everything down on a piece of paper, the edit menu gives you two lines to write text but you can only write one line so you have to abbreviate titles(16 characters)i`ve had this unit only 2 days,be warned!!! i`ve also noticed that pioneer and kenwoods mega players are about 3 yrs old this includes sony hopefully they will build new models soon.

Strengths:
decent sound havn`t played any dvds yet but this unit is going back to goodguys tomorrow

Weaknesses:
menu takes awhile to figure out, goes haywire after long periods of use, menu layout sucks, dvd quality????

Similar Products Used:
pioneer,kenwood
