When it was working, it was the least expensive HDMI upconverting DVD recorder, and the output looked good on my hi-def Sony 50".

Terrible reliability. They can't replace the video output card, as it's not available as a separate part.

I have had 3 of these in the last year, and all have been defective. The HDMI output either doesn't work at all or fails within a month. RCA/Thompson customer service is absolutely atrocious. They keep losing my case information, fail to send return labels, close the case before it's resolved, and refuse to refund my money.

Now they tell me the unit is no longer available, and offered the 8052NC as a replacement. I will do this only because I have no choice.
