To round off the package, Pioneer has added compatibility with DVD Barcode and LaserBarcode control systems. Pioneer has also built in playback compatibility for both NTSC and PAL video standards.

Strength:

Sound quality, build quality. Bargain audio device as people upgrade to more modern DVD players.

Weakness:

No display. You have to remember which audio tracks are playing.

I use this as an audio transport into a Bel Canto DAC. It is a very cost effective way to own a high end transport with 96 khz/24 bit encoding. On its own, it plays music very well and is built like a tank. My plan is to stay with the Bal Canto/Pioneer combo long term to play CD's. I use these for audio only.
