Review 1 of 2 Summary: The Pioneer DVL 90 is a very good bridge product between laser disk and DVD. I have this unit and a Sony 7000. I believe that for DVD, the Sony 7000 bests the Pioneer DVL in almost every aspect. None-the-less, the player is less expensive than many previous "LaserDisk" only players. The DVL 90 plays just about every format there is. It plays CDROM, CDR-W, CDs, CD Videos, DVD, Laser and even the newer 24 bit 96 Khz DVD audio disks from Cheesky.
The unit does a very good job playing CDs. The sound is quite detailed.
My biggest quip about the unit is that if the power goes out, the DVL 90 forgets all its settings and reverts back to factory setting. The default setting for wide screen is the anamorphic setting.
For individuals that have a Laser Collection, this unit will be a very good unit to cross over to DVD. If you do not already have a collection of DVDs, the Sony 7000 is probably a better buy.
