Astonishing detail and seperation micro maco details just ooze from the soundstage bass is deep with both cd/dvd good cables are required Bullets or WBT nextgen on the RCA digital cables or you will be missing some detail.
I make my own silver cables have A-B many out there also plugs used on them alsofound Coherent Audio cables soundsuperb thoughout my system I hate siblience these cables have banished it without been shut in.
A decent HDMI cable to get the best pictureis also required.

My only gripe is the slow loading but this is part of Meridian players so not much really oh and the big remote I dont want it landing on my toes that would hurt.

I wanted a cd/dvd player transport that sounded good with both formats originally looked for a Esoteric not many about or some people wanted too much etc.
Anyhow saw a s/h ad for this Meridian G98DH knowing the pedigree behind this kit thought that could fit my bil.
Iit's fully digital has got HDMI out to tv upscales very well why go for Blue and HD when you've a limited cataloge of films normal dvd's look great on this.
Redbook cd sounds superb big soundstage dynamic and very clear smooth but you do need to partner well it may not suit all setups.
I hate some modern dry bright players so called upsampling which dont work I wont name them but so many out there just dont sound like music to me.
My old 3 box setup consisted of Teac T1 transport with clock 4 etc mods Meridian 518 processor(smooths hash gives vinyl sound from cd)then a Stello dac pre which I still own but sold the other 2.
This setup wiped the floor with many modern players till I found the G98 which on it's own brings me closer to the vinyl sound from small silver discs Im hearing even more than I knew was on each cd going though my collection.

Im giving a full 5 stars for this product it's excelent value for money and sounds as good as it looks.

I like a nice open detailed but smooth sonic picture so you dont get fatigued after long listening periods.

Can upsample various input signals to 1080P 1080 i 720 p has got exemplary picture quality plays all region's any format + R-RW -R-RW DVD A discs apart from dvd ram,or SACD not that Im bothered to buy into that anyhow all my cd's are redbook.

You need good cables isolation like the Solid tech feet of silence I use,and have kit to really know what this is capable of cost me £100 HDMI Wireworld silver starlight cable was in a sale should have been £300 ! and some £450 custom alloy ic's for digital then I heard and saw awsome things from this player via redbook cd and dvd films.

My only gripe is slow reading of discs ie: it dont select the next track for a few seconds longer than most but then Meridian has done this for years on all their cd dvd machines,also the fat MSR remote could be more discrete to save my toe's if dropped lol :-o

Iv got the G98 DH version fully digital has no analogue outputs apart from component video.
I simply fancyed a single boxed machine for my dvd's and cd collection that excelled at both duities.
And boy can it do that well.
Im using it via a Yamaha amp piping though my hifi Stello DP200 dac/preamp and modified Hart poweramps for the cd frontend Proac studio 100's and Kef D65 surrounds at rear,also have 2 mains filters all silver wires and US plugs sounds superb would love the matching G68 when one comes up and Iv the cash ;-)
If you want a good transport for cd/dvd this has got to be as good if not one of the top ones out there in the £3-5k if not more bracket.
