Review 1 of 11

Price Paid:  $180.00 from Complete Home

Summary:
Never worked 100%. I occasionally need to unplug the unit and wait a few minutes, and then usually it starts working properly. Locks up during playback, won't turn off, can't get my disc out, displays "ERROR", etc

Strengths:
Low price, at the time...

Weaknesses:
See above. Also, why does the red light go on when the unit is off and vice versa? This behaves opposite any equipment I have ever owned.

Similar Products Used:
I have a JVC boombox that I have had for 15 years and it still works perfectly.

Review 2 of 11

Price Paid:  $119.00 from Curcuit City

Summary:
I bought this unit based on reading DVD player reviews, this is my first DVD player. I am not disappointed with this player. Picture and sound quality is good. It works well with my surround sound system. Tried a CD and it sounded good even with surround sound. The CD sounded so good I forgot to try the two channel setting. Played the CD better than my CD player on surround sound. I cannot wait to try all the features it offers. The only thing I do not care for is the red led being on when the unit is off.!!!!??? great value at only $119. !!!!

Strengths:
Well written manual, unit is nice size, different connection possiblities.

Weaknesses:
Not very good cables included.

Review 3 of 11

Price Paid:  $140.00 from J and R

Summary:
A lot of bang for the buck. If your looking for a good, cheap, non-progressive DVD player, add this to your list. I have this hooked up to my TV with component cables and the picture quality is very good. JVC might have a problem making flat-screen TV''''s (see my review on the AV32F702) but this DVD player seems up to snuff.

Strengths:
Price. Features. Looks. Plus, it matches my TV perfectly.

Weaknesses:
None so far...

Review 5 of 11

Price Paid:  $149.00 from Blockbuster Video

Summary:
Excellent purchase from Blockbuster included 13 FREE DVD rentals (approx $50 value) bringing the cost to approx $99.00. Set-up is easy, all possible audio & video connections available in an entry level player.

Only complaint, besides the ones mentioned above, is that the player locked-up during playback 3 months after purchase. Had to power-down and re-start to remove disk. JVC tech support was excellent, e-mailed me key sequence to restore factory defaults. Took to local JVC repair facility where I was told they re-soldered a bad connection (no charge, under warrenty). Did not solve lock-up problem. Problem was temperature related (player would overheat in entertainment center when placed ABOVE digital cable receiver from Comcast). Changed position of player and have not had a problem since.

Strengths:
Digital & Optical Output
S-Video Out
Component Video Out
Excellent Sound & Picture

Weaknesses:
Clumsy Remote
No Descending Time (Time Remaining)

Similar Products Used:
None

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....
