DCM VLS2 Home Theater in a Box

DCM VLS2 Home Theater in a Box

DESCRIPTION

Looking for an easy way to upgrade from the sound that comes out of your TV's speakers? It's DCM's Visual Listening System 2 (VLS2), a two-piece surround-sound simulating speaker set. It's not going to blow away a true 5.1-channel speaker system, but the TV-top main unit and powered subwoofer will appeal to you if space is limited in your TV room, or if you're looking for an easy plug-and-play solution to home-theater sound. DCM's David Watson calls it a "great gaming speaker," so if you want to make that new Sega Dreamcast rock, this system is worth considering. The main unit sports four 2-1/2-inch full-range drivers arrayed in such a way that they simulate the surround experience from the single TV-top box. That unit is magnetically shielded, soyou don't have to worry about interference with your television. It's smaller than most center speakers, though it bears a definite resemblance to that type of speaker. The bandpass subwoofer is a mid-sized unit, sporting a 10-inch woofer that's drivenby an onboard 100-watt amplifier. You don't need an A/V receiver to use with this unit -- that's a big part of its appeal. You simply hook the sub up to your TV or other source, run the included DIN connector from the sub to the main unit, set the levels, and you're good to go.We're not aware of any other systems of this type currently on the market, although there are conventional speaker/receiver systems in this price range.
