Beyer Dynamic DT 131 On-Ear

Beyer Dynamic DT 131 On-Ear

DESCRIPTION

Small and lightweight, these headphones work well out of portable gear. Don't expect the great sound that you get from the better Beyers; that isn't included. Compared to the good headphones in this price range and application, the 131 sounds rather muddy and dead. The bass is shallow and the mids are not well defined. Not terrible, but your money would be better spent on the Sennheiser HD497 or Grado SR60 headphones. The DT 131 have supraaural earcups with cloth covering and a self-adjusting headband for moderate all-around comfort. The headband tension is pretty strong, which may become uncomfortable during long listening sessions. The single-sided 10' cable is terminated to a mini, with a 1/4 adapter included.

Strength:

I totally agree with Eric, These earphones deliver much lively and realistic sound as many much expensive ones, especially when playing “unplugged” music. The do NOT sound muddy and dead at all, and the bass is not shallow at all. I state this as an acoustic guitar player and listener.

Weakness:

One real thing is their tension and uncomfortableness over long listening periods. I wish I had the same sound experience with softer and better isolating cushions, as well as more robust and conforting headband.

Strength:

Comfortable, great "alive" sound. Very balanced between the highs, mids and lows.

Weakness:

Deep bass and the 2.5 meter cord (should be 3 meters).

I've tried the Sony MDR-CD380 and the Sennheiser 495. I like the DT-131 more. They don't have the deep bass of the Sonys but they are much livelier. And the bass doesn't break up like with the 495s.
