from 0 Summary: I was told (by the sales rep) to stay away from this model because it sounds "tiny" (not small, more like a tin can). He recommended a pair of Sony MDR - J 11 G which, to my ears at least, sound very decent. Similar looking to the J10, the ones I got sounded a little dark and muffled when new with a piercing treble, but these symptoms went away after about 80 - 100 hours of play on a sony music file player (atrac is the sony format equivalent to mp3's). They became very resolute, smooth with excellent timbre and articulation. One thing that repeatedly came to mind while listening to Paco De Lucia's Cositas Buenas album, was how real the guitar comes across on these little earphones. All volume inflections are handled beautifully allowing the listener to really believe that they are being exposed to the real thing. Imaging is also spot on, I listen to Jean Michel Jarre for that ... ANY set of transducers that can image his music successfully deserve mention.
These are not audiophile headphones but they offer great speed/imaging/smoothness along with light weight/durability .... function follows form. I am a big fan of in ear headphones and so far I think these are Sony's best effort to date. Not champions in the bass department but not even my Sennheiser 600's are (despite upgrading to the aftermarket cardas headphone cable).
All in all I would recommend them for easy, non-critical listening. Strengths: mentioned Similar Products Used: lack low end punch
