Review 1 of 2

Summary:
The reviewer posted a review of these back in April, 2001, and judging by the price he paid for them, I knew they couldn't have been the HD250II's! He actually posted a review of the HD210's, which are nowhere near the caliber of sealed cup-type headphones that the HD250II's are. In fact, the HD210's are the very bottom-of-the-line Sennheiser closed headphones!

Anyway, the HD250II's completely blow away all of the current closed consumer-level Sony headphones in their price range, as far as their accuracy and sound reproduction are concerned. However, they require an amp - their impedance is 300 ohms! (The low-end HD210's the reviewer had posted earlier are only 32 ohms.) Among closed headphones in their price range, only the 600-ohm AKG K240DF's and the 80-ohm Beyer DT250-80's can compare to these monsters.

I can only give these cans 4 stars for both value and overall, because most similarly-priced open-air cans do sound better and more accurate. But if you need a sealed-cup pair of headphones, the HD250II's are among the best in their price range.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $50.00 from Audio Advisor

Summary:
Plain and simple - you can spend $50 (or a little more) on a MUCH better (and more realistic) sounding set of phones. Do NOT use these for anything critical (studio use is a no-no!) These were a major disappointment. (And yes, I burned them in - they still sucked.)

Strengths:
?

Weaknesses:
no where near accurate, quite colored, limited bandwidth

Similar Products Used:
AKG 240M & DF, Fostex T-20, Sony MDR7506, AT top-of-the-line (forget model)

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
