Summary:
The Best DJ Headphone I've found so far. Yes it sounds closed, but it is a CLOSED headphone, so what do you expect? For mixing, it outdid the Sony V600 (of course), Sony V6/7506, Sony 7509, and Ixos MOS DJ1000 (dispite what Hi Tech Magazine said). It has a tight, resolved low end that none of the other headphones could touch. Only the Etymotic ER4S headphone and my biamped NHT speakers give better tightness in the low end. The mids are all there and the highs are, too. And this can play as loud or louder than any headphone, with zero alteration of the sound at high volumes. This is not an audiophile headphone, but it also doesn't offend my audiophile tastes. The ear cushions are not circumaural, but do a good job blocking out sound. Not the most comfortable, but I have watched movies with them before and they're not too bad. For DJing, though, I highly recommend unscrewing the size adjustment joints and supergluing the inards and screw holes so they don't slide around ever again. Careful you don't put the glue to low, don't want to spoil the 1000's pretty looks. I glued mine to the 4th notch. Eventually the screws will strip if you keep tightening them to prevent the headphone band from readjusting and getting too big as you spin. I then put a piece of scotch tape around the joint to reinforce this. You can't see it unless you get really close, and it actually looks like it's almost supposed to be like that. All the headphones I tried encountered the same slipping problem, but the Pioneer at least allowed me to fix it permanently. It's not like my head's going to grow. Reticuli; a.k.a. Ben Goulart

Strengths:
Tight, resolved, undestorted sound. Top notch low end. Extended response that is transparent, neutral, and grain free enough to not offend my ears.

Weaknesses:
A bit too much bling bling look to it, but I've gotten use to it.

Magnepan Magneplanar MG 1.6 User Review

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
