Price Paid:  $60.00 from Good Guys

Summary:
I have had these headphones for several years now, and i have to say they have already outlasted 3 other pairs of headphones i have had. I had some Koss headphones where the earpads fell out (i got a free replacement), then i was listening one day when my roommate stepped on the cord and it ripped the thins apart (off of my head mind you!). That happened again with some $40 open-air Sonys too. I then got these Denons with a Good Guys warranty (first time i have ever bought one, and probably the last too). Anyways, these were the best sounding closed ear headphones for under $61 at the time and they are awesome. I believe they probably sound better than the competition because they are supra-aural which aims the sound right towards your ear drum. These are also quite durable. I through them into my backpack without worries these days, and they can handle the abuse fine. In the long run when i am buying exclusively home headphones, i will get some good open-ear circumaural headphones. Koss A-250s possibly....

Strengths:
*Good Value *Durable *Supra-aural *Closed-ear (keep the noise out and the music in so your roommate doesn't get pissed) *I think they look good

Weaknesses:
*Uncomfortable (i have to take listening breaks every 2 hours due to soreness - they press in on my ears and hurt) *They remind me of the weaknesses of my speakers

Similar Products Used:
$40 Sonys $40 Koss

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $80.00 from a local retailer

Summary:
I love these headphones. Denon is not considered by some to be in a tier with sony when it comes to home audio but that is mostly becuase of advertisement. Most just assume sony is better because it is a big name. I find Denon products to top sony's in most cases. These headphones are no exception. They are great sounding, very durable, comfortable, and are cheap for the quality.

Strengths:
The frequency response is well balanced and fits well for all types of music. The bass response is perfectly leveled. Even with rap, hip hop, or techno, the bass thumps are very present but do no drown out any treble. Also, rock and metal sound great as the bass drum and bass guitars are both defineable yet not overpowering. The treble is crisp and clear. It is never twangy and ear damaging. The mids are present yet not dominant. The overall sound is, as previously mentioned, very well balanced. Every type of music sounds fantastic on these headphones. Also, they are extremely durable. I actually ran over a bag they were in at the airport one day and was amazed to find them not only in tact, but still sounding great. They are comfortable and sleek and fit in most backpacks or small bags for traveling. For a great sounding, durable, comfortable set of headphones, youd expect to pay more than $100. Not in this case.

Weaknesses:
The only thing I can think of is the amount of noise which escapes the earphones. When the volume is turned up too high, it's easy for others to hear muffled music.

Similar Products Used:
I actually started with JVC headphones which I liked but lost. I then decided to change to sony. I started with lower models of the MDR line. Then I upgraded to the MDR-V700. These are DJ headphones a

Price Paid:  $60.00 from Custom Home Hifi

Summary:
Really great set of headphones. Bass is very deep and tight. Great with all types of music. I agree with the reviewer below about their performance compared to most Sony's i've listened too. I like them better the Sennheiser HD-580s that I just sold. Great bargain in you can find a pair for under $90.00 bucks. Highly recommended. I'm sure there are better cans outhere, but you'll have to spend quite a bit more to equal the performance of these. I do not listen to headphones that much and just bought these for more or less "Casual listening" at night. But I got a lot more then I expected. Not as comfortable as the HD-580s but still comfortable. Proof that more money doesn't aslway mean better sound.

Strengths:
Articulate bass performance. Refined/Detailed Sound.

Weaknesses:
In a hot room your ears may sweat slightly

Similar Products Used:
Various Sony MDRs, Sennheiser HD-500, Sennheiser HD-580

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....
