Casual Listener

Just bought bought a pair of Opus 2 -1 to place my old MB Quart 3, driving them with an Onkyo TX-NR808. These speakers have one of the best vocal reproduction I have every heard of. The bass is powerful, yet natural. The overall sound is very clean and spacious. It is very easy listening, and I can listen to it for hours without feeling tired. If you like listening to vocal, Opus 2-1 is something you should try listen to.

Another bonus: the piano finish makes the speaker look like a piece of art.

These speakers came from one of the CES shows. They were the static display modles. First the looks: They look more like works of art than a part to your home theater system. Build quality: over all like a brick s%^T house minus the grills. The grill pegs break off very easy. The tri wired 5 way binding posts are very attractive when viewed from the back. Out of the box: These replaced a set of older wharfedale 89's. When I first hooked them up and the sound came out, I was mortified. They more or less sounded like boxed ass. Grain, strain, mudd, dead. I was really nervous that I had screwed up big time. So, every day when I went to work I put on the digital music from the cable box and set volume mid way up. It took about 1-1/2 weeks but one day I came back and I was like wait, are these the same speakers? They all at once opened up and the sound was open, airy, focused. Still there was some thing missing. I went on line and did some searching and after talking with the guys at Zu Audio, replaced the brass bars with Zu IBIS jumpers. BAM! That was what I was looking for. Smooth sound. The beauty of these babies is in the details of the mid range. The tweeters are silk dome and of similar construction to the old 89's. But the cross over points seem to match much better. They are also a little on the finiky side when it comes to placement. If I had a few more feet in every direction they would really open up. Sound stage: if you were to walk in blind folded and listen, you would find that most people could not point to their exact location other than to say they are in front. If you have the ability to audition these, give them a go. Very musical. Very open and detailed. If there is a flaw in your over all system or recording, these speakers will reviel it in a big way.
