Strength:

High fidelity. And surely that is the whole point of hifi? No "warmth" with these speakers, unless the recording itself is warm!

Weakness:

Bass needs to be bolstered by a decent subwoofer.

I am using five of these speakers for surround sound. Although designed as a centre speaker, the only difference between these and the S8LCRs is that the 8 inch dual concentric driver is in the middle of the box, rather than closer to the top. The driver used is an 8 inch dual concentric that appears to be identical to the one used in Tannoy System 800 studio monitors. The tech specs indicate that these drivers give >0.1% THD! Suffice to say that these come as close in fidelity to a decent pair of headphones as any speakers.

Strength:

accuracy. Nothing even close until $10,000 spent.

Weakness:

low end below 50hz. I supplemented with REL Strata III to round out sound field.

Currently use S8LR with ST-200 Supertweeters as primary two channel. Extremely accurate, pitch correct, holographic. Strong in mids,

Please refer to my review on the Tannoy S10's but believe me when I say these speakers can do it all in both home theater and serious listening.

Strength:

Bi-wirable, dual-concentric, it's a Tannoy

Weakness:

None

This is really the finest center out there IMHO.
VERY boxy/tinny sounding fresh out of the box and for several weeks thereafter. But, as with any high quality loudspeaker, with age comes maturity. After several sessions the unit really started opening up and after 150hrs. or so the S8C gradually started dissapearing. At this point I no longer realise the speaker is there. Due to my HT setup I have the unit placed about a 22" above the monitor and still the sound comes directly from the on-screen source. Blends seamlessly with the rest of the Saturn line.
Well worth the $600 asking price, even better of course if you find it for less.
I can't think about this speaker without breaking into a smile, a REALLY BIG smile.
