I have a pair of these speakers for surrounds for use with my Pro LX-10's (fronts), Pro-CS5 (center), and an Optimus 10", 100W Powered sub. They are powered by an JVC 884-VBK DD receiver. I have them corner mounted about 7' up on the wall. They seem to work pretty well for surrounds, but I don't think they would do very well as fronts. I don't seem to get a huge amount of output from them (even playing a DD DVD), but that could be caused by my receiver. The Pro LX-5's would be a better surround speaker, but I wanted to wall mount them so that ruled out the Pro LX5's. I'll give the Pro LS-1 3.5 stars.

This product is a new line of HT packages that RS is trying to market to the general public. This speaker is slightly bright, mellow on the midrange (good vocals), and has absolutely no bass what-so-ever (200-20K hz range). This system should suffer from sub localization due to having to set the crossover so high (most good subs won't reproduce the 200hz as it is assumed that the midrange will be picked up by the front mains or center channel) as well as making the sub boomy and lagging. The sleeker looks (for a RS product) are obviously marketted for BOSE AM-series consumers (or entry level enthusiast) and should be avoided by the more demanding individuals who desire to have better than these two systems. Why RS wants to take a step back instead of setting up their PRO-X..AV in a more promotional setup (really you need to take RS speakers home for yourself as these stores almost all have improper setup, plus you can take them back up to 30 days if not satisfied). Don't buy these just wait till the PRO-X (88/55/44) AV series of speakers goes on sale and buy them instead. About the only speakers these can out perform are the BOSE AM-series sats but at least they are priced as they perform. CHEAP.

Strength:

Very inexpensive.

Weakness:

limited freq range

I have 4 of these and they sound good for movies,
paired with the proSW-10 and the matching center.
all hooked in a pro-logic reciver @75w per ch.
Awsome HT setup for under 250.00 L/R LS/RS SW,
I will re-review these when i get my sherwood rvd-6095
DD/DTS reciver.I see no need in spending tons of money for
HT gear.Proper set-up and calibration, good quality cables and wire(NOT EXPENSIVE!)are the key to awsome sound.
Use your sound level meters and speaker stands for maximum
output.Its all about SET_UP!!!!
