BRILLIANT !!!
Don't let the budget price of these speakers and their age put you off. If you can get these for under £100 EVEN NOW you've got youself a solid gold bargan.

You like tight punchy bass - you've got it, sublime midrange - in bucketfuls, accurate highs and superb soundstaging - well my friend Happy Birthday !

They respond VERY well to thoughtful upgrades in electronics and ancillaries and if you can find them in light wood veneer their looks still draw appreciative comments that belie their age.

If I was to upgrade (not likely at the mo) I would be looking favourably towards the likes of Monitor Audio Studio 2 SE, Epos ES11/14 - THAT'S HOW GOOD THESE ARE !! If you see a decent pair- just buy them !

Strength:

Stunning Clarity all the way to full volume price! (now)

Weakness:

not enough of them around!

I bought These when I first started getting interested in Audio in a serious way. Went into the shop looking for something to go with my stunning Rotel amp! Looked for familiar names and found these, when i was told they were only 50 i jumped at the chance and got em. Given that i really knew nothing @ the time i am now very impressed with them. The clarity is stunning, I'm afraid im not highly musical but i certainly have no heard anything better. The crystal treble notes and its tight midrange and bass performance are a real joy. Its a sad thing to say but slapping on a favourite track on this has really cheered up my days sometime. Accross all genres of music they are outstanding. (believe me, my collection includes; relaxing classical, 90's dance, techno, pop, boyband stuff and even spice girls) If you have no idea about audio but like your music, and have some generic speakers that came with the hifi go out and find a pair of these and enjoy your music even more!

Strength:

Vocal, imaging, rythmic ability.

Weakness:

Bass reponse rolls off too high, ported at too high frequency, bass can sound one-noted.

I bought these speakers way under half their street price, and have had hours of enjoyment out from them. Using a technic/sony combination they produce a tight detailed sound with really good vocal performance. The bass rolls off too high, they are bookshelf speakers, but coupled with a sub these speakers sound too good. Get them if you still can. Oh and rip off those plastic caps on the banana posts so you can use decent 4mm plugs!!

Strength:

very fast, good firm bass and superb detail, very open and give a big sound from relatively small speakers

Weakness:

can sound bright with poor component matching

i recently purchased these speakers at 49.95 at richer sounds as they had been very well reviewed and were cheap, i wired them with cable talk 3.1 and used a musical fidelity e10 amp. at first they were very bright and it took many hours to wear them in plus i changed the cable to qed silver anniversary biwire and they now sound great, very fast and detailed with good bass, however the amp was built to show off voices and is very valve like and warm and therefore matches well with an intrinsically fast and bright speaker as the amp tames the excesses of the speaker ( i imagine that the speakers would sound dreadful with a fast bright amp)

Strength:

Build Quality and Price

Weakness:

None at this price

Just bought these for a friend. They cost only £59.00 which is a absolute bargin. They sound very good although not a nice as my B+W601 S2. But if they were available at thw low price when I bought the B+W I would bought them instead. They would also make nice rear speakers for a AV system.

Rush out and buy at this price you be mad not to.

Strength:

Treble, midrange, build, bi-wireable.

Weakness:

Bass? what bass?

I used these speakers with a Marantz PM6010 OSE KI amp, Videologic Digital tuner, QED silver anniversary cable and Atacama SE24 stands.

The sound was very crisp and clear, excellent with vocals,
I don't like Afromans 'because I got high' but this combination of equipment makes it sound amazing! The only problem I had was not enough bass, so I will try the Mission 701's or maybe the Wharfdale 8.2's.

I bought the MS20i Pearl for use with my Marantz PM55SE AMP and Marantz CD67SE CD player.
To my ears, these speakers offer a full sound. There is fantastic detail, yet lots of warmth. I position them 8cm from a rear wall.

On the minus side? They don't look too pretty, but I am sure I'll learn to like them. One final thing -- birwire them for best results -- I use cable talk talk 3.1 biwire and it really does make a difference from freebie stuff.

Strength:

Sweet sweet treble and fast rythmic timing, biwirable too

Weakness:

not the deepest bass in the world and need stands to really shine

Bought these for £100 quid around 2 years ago and these actually are mordaunt short speakers - not the same as the poorly made richer sounds ones now selling for 50 quid after ms was bought out.

Speakers take quite a while to run in but give wonderful presentation and a nice stereo image. Could do with a little more bass presence but the are bookshelf units afterall. Stands are essential for good performance and biwiring really does improve the sound - try it and you will notice the difference.

Like the previous reviewer I bought these for £60 at Richer sounds - not only was the RRP £200, but a couple of years back they cleaned up in a What HiFi £250 group test, so it was a bargain to good to resist. Also like the previous reviewer I hooked them with QED silver anniversary biwire, and I love the results. They are on the end of a Technics Pre/Power battery combo and Pioneer PD-S06 CD and the sound is truly beautiful. Sit back, close your eyes, and enjoy.
