Amazing spaciality and musicallity.
Magic gold tweeter with 1st order attenuation, going near 1Hz! The upgrades lost it.
Focused and transparent midband.
Bass is Audiophile Grade (sealed enclosure), unlike most bass reflexes out there (aka boom boxes).

All music excels, in part because they are not too detailed (neither too round) and somehow forgiving.

No other speaker gave me so much overall satisfaction.

Strength:

bass treble midrange intergration soundstage detail RELAXING EXCITING INVOLVING SUBTLE POWERFUL. They maybe a little coloured, what speaker isnt? But i assure every song you play will pressent to you the nuances of different recordings, be it ANY type of music.

Weakness:

its 2003. They were born in 95. "Technology moves pretty fast...You dont stop an listen around once in a while...You could miss it!!!"

They might be a 97, but theyre definately an early model, i was fortunate enough to have a friend manageing a hifi shop thus explaining the price paid. I am aware that cross overs were uprated not long after my pair were made, and the sound greatly improved, I havent upgraded yet, but plan to soon. I would also like to have a full set of backup drivers because these speakers a so good, lots of detail, dynamics, good midrange all "Displayed" for you. Sealed enclosures ie, serious control, no reliance on rear walls to reflect bass port output. Its all genuinely coming from the drive units, with their cabinets varying in size within the main enclosure, the right volume of air in each one tuned perfectly, you just have to give them the classic knock with the knuckle all the way down the side of the cabinet and you can here the different resonances. I have actually added a little extra damping material to the side walls of the bass enclosures, unfortunately i have rather a small room for their capabillities so i felt a small amount of dampening to the upper bass was ok. If you can find some second hand i advise you to purchase. Dont forget, some poor noddy paid 4500pounds for the beautiful Transducers.

Strength:

Soundstage and ability to be driven well

Weakness:

None apart from the fact that Studio 60's and beyond are out there......

Just another posting on the previous review... Just upgraded front end to Mark Levinson No.39s and Amp to Mark Levinson No.334 Well all I can say is that these speakers now really talk - female voices are just incredible Give me an email and I'll explain. All the best - James.

Strength:

very revealing, yet smooth; elegant appearance, fits well in domestic settings; an easy amplifier load

Weakness:

no major faults; overall sound can be improved with a very good quality subwoofer

I originally owned a pair of Studio 20s which I was very pleased with, but I also knew I was missing an octave of bass (20 to 40Hz). Replaced the 20s with NHT 3.3s. The NHT is a great speaker; they're full range (controlled deep bass all over the place), go loud, image well, but I feel they lack the finesse of the Studio 20s. The time I spent listening to music decreased and I listened more to CDs than vinyl. Despite the overall good sound of the NHTs, something was wrong. The Studio 50s brought back the magic. Their presentation of sonic detail and the texture of music is startling, yet they do this without throwing the sound in your face. Very natural sounding. I suspect some people won't like them because they are not an exciting speaker. Instead they just play music.

Well, since the only posting on here was for a review here goes:
I've had a pair of Studio 20SE's for 2 years, and was very happy indeed. Front end of Audiolab CDM/DAC, Audiolab 8000Q and 4 8000MX's for full bi-amping. Only trouble was driving them hard started to loose sound stage. Solution: buy a pair of 50's. Two more bass drivers, less strain on main speaker on 20's, no more rear port so full sound in front. Suffice it to say I am still amazed at the revealing mid range and richness that comes from these speakers. Even my wife noticed... perhaps the best accolade from a casual listener. I wonder how much better these would be with some Krell front ends......

Strength:

Incredible bass image...

Weakness:

This speaker is faultless...

I went to 3 audio stores and told them I wanted the best speaker I could get for $20,000 or less Canadian. I asked to audition their best in the house within the price range in a dark room. If I could see the speakers, the deal was off. Only 2 of the stores would entertain me. Although I apparently heard speakers that were 3X the price, the Studio 50s were far and away the most concise, transparent gateways through time and space, allowing me to experience first hand the music as it was being played… the songs as they were being sung… the breaths as they were being drawn.

I was amazed at first sound and still am to this day. This is as close to a miracle as technology can claim in these miraculous and seemingly infinite days of technological triumph.

A piano appears in your living room when you close your eyes. The somber cadence of the cello wails within your chest cavity, the bass entering through the floor and along your bones… the sweet, sweet violin chirps the brightest notes and all together they orchestrate a symphony of praise worthy of any monarch… and these Monitor Audio Studio 50s are King of this age.
