These are highly detailed, power hungry, exquisitely built speakers in high-end furniture quality cabinets. You kids will one day wait with bated breath to see who inherits the LS360 speakers for two reasons: 1. They've never heard a better speaker 2. They're kinda hoping not to be the one that has to move them.

I have a long history in recording, pro audio, live sound engineering and also as a performing musician. My ears are absolutely wrecked for anything above 6.5khz So, if shrill, uncompressed horn tones or upper octave piano licks mean a lot to you, don't trust this review. But, if you listen for soundstage, detail, clarity, instrument separation, faintly doubled voices, Mark Knopfler's early career Strat tones, Count Basie's Jam records, the first CS&N vinyl pressings, Elvis in Memphis and Sinatra's Nelson Riddle era, I think you'll be absolutely blown away by the LS350's. Maybe blown away is a little too strong of a term... How about you'll be lifted and transported to a different time and place. So, while these behemoth's certainly have the power to move you, don't try to return the favor. Ask a friend for help.

On a more serious note: These speakers require power. They're hugely inefficient. I don't know that you'll be able to do them justice with anything rated under 50 watts. My 75 watt MA2275 couldn't find the sweet spot. OTOH, my 100 watt Marantz SS reference amp had them singing.

Bottom line: I love them. If they were stolen, I would definitely find another pair. Given how rare they come up for sale, I keep them in my basement listening room, down a flight of stairs - mainly to deter burglars.

Mcintosh speakers are generally do not receive high reviews by the audiophile community. Regardless, I gave these massive speakers a try. All I can say is that I was blown away by the LS350s. Truly exceptional sound when properly driven. I paired them with a MC2102 tube power amp.

The first thing that I noticed is that these speakers have some of the best bass that I have ever heard. I was hearing low notes that I never knew were there. Classical concerts were amazing, especially cello. Rock music also really benefited from the added low end.

The second point to mention is that the sound-stage was remarkable. Close your eyes and you fee like you are teleported to another place. I have never heard another set of speakers that can match it.

Clarity and detail of vocals was very good too. However, I would say my Spendor sp100 probably out do the Mcintosh in this regard.

The only real negative is the size. Massive is an understatement. Ultimately this is why I had to let them go.

Conclusion: Not for NYC apartments. But a serious contender for your ultimate home reference system.
