While not the absolute best sound I have heard, these speakers have not given me a reason to think of changing them. I have had them since 1999 and they are still going strong. I've used these to provide music for small parties. They can still play loud but I'm married now so that doesn't happen very often. I did have Klipsch repair the amplifier in 2004. I live in Jamaica but I had gone to the UK to work in 2002 and left them with a friend who was a bit overzealous with the volume control. When I got back home they were not working. Sent them to Klipsch who replaced the amplifier section which had got damaged (The repair fee was quite low). Playing sweetly to this day. I have got much more than my money's worth

My review on the Klipsch V2-400's comes to you mainly because "YOU NEED TO KNOW" how great this package is. Unlike most reviews, I won't go into many details about thier tech/specs, you can read for yourself @Klipsch.com. I have a Sony P/C Digital Studio (pcv-rx370ds), and after hooking these speakers up and turning up the volume to 3/4's, actually broke a window in my office. There is NOTHING on the market today that is even close to achieving that kind of performance. For all you people that have gripes about the V2-400's, remember, a speaker will only do what it is "told" to do. So I suggest you spend your money more wisely on what is "driving" these. 85% of the individuals that have heard my set-up, have spent the next few days wondering where they can purchase them. Reviews of muddy bass, hissing, no mid-range ..., come on people clean your ears! Or maybe you can come over and the V2-400's will do it for you.

I decided I needed some good sounding music one day so I read a ton of reviews and decided on the promedia 2.1's. Like many others, I was blown away. I was suddenly in front of a "real" stereo. I've been enjoying these for over a year. Just a few days ago I upgraded the speaker wire with some 16gauge(ewg) wire and radioshack gold 1/8" plugs---damn if it didn't sound better! After doing the new wire install, I casually turned them on without really listening for a difference, and Wham! They seemed to reach out and grab my brain, announcing YES YES this is what I needed! The new wires seem to improve the midrange and "open up" the sound. It kind of seems like the amp has to work less and gives a "rounder" sound. I read lots of info on speaker wire. I know there is a large contingent of engineering types who will insist that lamp cord of a minimum gauge will work as well as any good speaker wire. For I while I leaned toward their side, but NO MORE. These engineering types have fallen into the "expert trap". They believe that measurements on their machines tell the whole story. If they used their built-in machines (ears) they would quickly realize how WRONG they are! Too bad many of them just love to adopt a condescending attitude, spew out some figures, and then chuckle at how much money we're "wasting" on good wire...ok I feel better know. Anyway, buy these speakers, upgrade the wires (be careful to not short the wires when assembling the plugs), and then marvel at the sound! I've read some people connect some HUGE wire directly into the sattelites by bypassing the plugs (kind of radical for me), but I wonder how that sounds!

Tight bass until the the really low hz are hit then the sub rolls off, but very punchy in its sweet spot and tight, midrange clear but not bright, highs are just sweet, great price for what you get. Outstanding sound quality for the $

Best bang for the $ the 2.1 pro-media's are the sound bomb. Handles everything and has the volume to scare the neighbors without much distortion, Kilpsh built these right and they could of sold them for 279.00 and I would of bought them. Radiohead's The Tourist from OK Computer sounds fantastic... great details awesome buy

Incredble dynamic range and bass response really worthy of a room sound system instead of a computer and nice looking and of course the klipsch volume headroom is there if you want to crank them up a bit.

Not cheap

Longtime Klipsch fan here and when I got a new PC recently I was pleasantly surprised that Best Buy carried the Klipsch pro-media 2.1 and had them on display at the store. I tried them out and what a great sound although not the cheapest, they were by far the most dynamic and crisp sounding with the trademark Klipsch kick. By all means if you can afford them give the 2.1''''s a listen especially if you listen to music a lot and definitely if you are an audio enthusiast.

These speakers sound better than many stereos. While they aren't cheap, they offer much more power than anything else in their class. Beyond just power, their sound quality is also very good.

One minor complaint is the number of cables that lead up to your desktop. The two connections (front and rear) lead from the computer up to the volume control which is mounted on one of the speakers. Then a thick cable runs from the volume control module back to the floor and into the subwoofer. Finally, individual speaker wires run from the subwoofer back up to each desktop speaker.

Subtle, full bass at low levels, thundering bass at high levels. The satellites are perfectly tuned with the subwoofer.

What the other fellows say is pretty consistent with my feelings here. No USB capability (there ARE PC speakers!) Legroom may be compromised by the large subwoofer.

Becasue the MS digital speaker system I had sounded so good (for PC speakers), I could never rationalize the purchase of the Promedias; fortunately, a friend recently bought a computer and wanted some decent speakers, but not too expensive--I was happy to oblige!

I have been a Klipsch enthusiast for years, and to have these little gems for the computer is a real treat; the musicality of this desktop system should more than satisfy any discriminating listener's ear. I bought them for music listening and flight sims: in both of these situations, I am overwhelmingly satisfied! I play the Promedias through a Sound Blaster Live audio card, but unfortunately, I cannot comment on the surround speakers, since I have not installed them yet. Still, the soundstage generated by this system is incredible: when I fly with wingmen (e.g., Jane's F/A-18), I can distinguish their individual approaches on my 4 and my 8. The carrier landings sound like a Wings episode from the Discovery Channel (in pro logic)--Really! Of course, the afterburner rumble is the payoff here, along with the detonation of ordnance; the thud from the subwoofer truly enhances the experience when you watch the explosion and consequent shockwave from a well placed LGB.

As far as music goes, I have listened to Jazz, Blues, Classical, The Cars, Dire Straits, Devo-all of these genres are reproduced beautifully. If you like hi-fidelity reproduction of music, and you spend any considerable time in front of your PC, the Promedias CANNOT BE BEAT: they are like headphones for your body! Those crappy speaker systems with their pathetic little psuedo-subwoofers that you find crowded on shelves at CompUSA or some Super Office store are wastes of space after you've demoed the Promedias.

Clean power. A slight hiss at low volumns. The is alot more midrange than the BA4800. The sound is much more smoother and filled. Good bass.

I considered a complete new system with a DD decoder with 5.1 inputs. But at a lot more money. This system is complete worth the money - and much better than the BA4800

WHAT weaknesses?

I am a gamer, and over the last 6 months or so, I've become an avid (read: RABID) online gamer, playing almost exclusively the Half-Life modification, Counter-Strike. I had heard from other players that 4-point surround could give you an edge--hearing opponents approaching from behind and their locations on the other sides of walls etc. Thought I could just upgrade my soundcard (I did-Diamond Monster MX300 for A3D) and buy a couple more cambridge satellites. Wrong. Cambridge doesnt' sell pairs of satellites. I would have to buy an entirely new system.

Thank God.

So I did the research. In doing so, I ran across this quote in PC Gamer's review: "The best PC Speakers on God's Green Earth." I think Gamespot's review began with: "Go buy these speakers. Now." Tried to find them cheaper, but you can only (as of this date) buy them directly from Klipsch for $250. So I gave it a shot.

I rarely leave my room now.

These speakers--wow--I could write the specs, but you're online--go check 'em yourself. Bottom line, when I slash my combat knife in this game, I FEEL it cut the air--in my SINUS CAVITY. And the gunfire and explosions? HUGE--INTESTINAL--they adversely affect the structural integrity of my home, but I don't care. I FEEL the bullet impact sounds. I've heard people behind me and whipped around in the correct direction and taken them out every time. --and that's just gaming.

Watching DVD movies and listening to CDs on my computer puts my living room system to shame. (These speakers made me go out and buy the Klipsch Quintets for my living room.) You can actually HEAR Joshua Bell's bow dragging across his violin strings on the ProMedias. You can hear every bounce of every bullet casing of every shot fired in BLADE. Listening becomes not only an aural, but a VISCERAL, experience. They are very nearly a "tactile interface."

AND THEY'RE JUST COMPUTER SPEAKERS!

They are clear. REALLY clear.
They are loud. MASSIVELY loud.
They just sound really, really good. You get the feeling that if the sound is there, you'll hear it. Clearly.

I just turned off all the lights and fired up the "System Shock 2" Demo, and I was SCARED TO DEATH. I mean, I WAS IN THE GAME. Jumped out of my chair several times. This is what they had in mind when they coined the phrase, "Immersive Experience."

Literally, words cannot express the satisfaction I've experienced. Just click on over to Klipsh's website and order them. I live in California, and they arrived in 3 days via UPS Ground.

Get these speakers.

But before you hook them up, you might want to pay a visit to your dentist so he can tighten up the fillings in your teeth.
