Strength:

Of course its difficult to be able to describe the sound quality as its neutral and will only give out what its told to, and given to output. But neutral is good and what it should be. It has zero noise floor both in output and mechanically, again, those finding noise must be adding it from somewhere else, or you have a faulty one. towing

Strength:

But with good speakers, however, it still sounds nice. But then again, you really have to partner the super 20 with good speakers to gain the best performance. New Rochelle Towing Company

Strength:

Fantastic speaker for surround satellites.

Weakness:

Base response, but you don't buy speakers with a 5" driver for base.

Outstanding speakers. Period. These were stacked up against Bose DCM and Infinity comparables among others. They sounded better than the Bose which cost triple what these did. Not quite as good as the Infinity though but for half the price you can't go wrong.

Strength:

High pitched sounds are perfect.

Weakness:

Cannot handle too much bass.

Its a great pair of speakers for the price. I bought them for 60 bucks but retail around 125 a piece and are worth it considering the quality of sound

Strength:

Superb imaging, exceptional tweeter.

Weakness:

None for their size.

These speakers work extremely well as near field studio monitors. For acoustic music, just plug the bass ports and you get a natural sounding acoustic bass. I bought them because they looked good. Took them in my studio and hooked them up beside my other nearfield monitors and they sounded so great, I now use them.

For eighty a pair at Fry's in Sac, these were the best value ever. It says that they handle 70 watts each, but i have experimented more than that withs lots of bass, never heard them distort. Lots os bass, clear trebel, the perfect bookshelf speaker, or rear in a mid-level Dolby Digital home theatre system. Take two, they're cheap!

Like Sean & Travis, I bought the JBL "J" series J520M @ Fry's Electronics' in Sunnyvale, CA (May '98) last year originally for $29.99 each (or $64.93 for the pair including CA 8.25% tax). Great price for the pair considering that I found them listed in San Diego's Professional Sound Website, selling the J520M for $156.00 each plus S/H, . . .so I bought them @ Fry's immediately.
Fry's has an 30-day price guarantee and within that time period, they marked it down from $29.99 each to $24.99, . . . .then $19.99 each. Thank you Fry's!!! My total price including tax = $43.28. I use them as my Surround Speakers (see below) and they were partly responsible for my all JBL (like Radio Music City Hall, NY) HT setup.

Excellent value Vs dollar. I've lived with the J520M for almost a year and I'm still impressed by it's sound quality in Dolby Digital 5.1. It is best described by living up to the JBL's roots & tradition of playing loud and clean. I can easily 'clean-off the cobwebs and melt the termites" w/blockbuster DVD Movie SPL Dolby Digital peaks reaching a clean 106dB - - "sounds better than our local Century Cinema Theaters" is the most common response!!

What sets this setup above some other speaker systems is the timbre. After obtaining the JBL J820 to be my Mains, . . .the Dolby Digital 5.1 ambiance sound effects and panning with seamless transitions all around is outstanding!!! I attribute this to the 14mm Titanium Laminate tweeter in the SC305 & J820 speakers, and the J520 10mm Titanium Laminate tweeter for the surrounds, . . .with it's silky smooth, accurate highs and excellent wide dispersion.

Dragonheart's DVD scene: 360 degree flight (20' x 30' room) by Draco around Dennis Quaid is one of my main DVD Demo's and it is, . . . . most glorious and with much honor!!

Music CD's & FM is also surprisingly listenable with this JBL "SC & J" Series HT setup. Vocals, by male, female, Jazz keyboard, sax, flute, guitar, drums & cymbals, string sections, etc. is accurately played with delicate impact coupled with extremely wide frequency response. Classical and Movie soundtrack's CD's dynamic range can be showed-off and played for hours @ near "Reference" levels with no stain, sound compression or fatigue.

Bought this pair for $100. This is NOT a musical speaker. Only good for surrounds. They can't play loud and cleanly. Think of this: how far loud and how deep a bass can be with a 5 inch of woofer? Not much. I'm thinking of maximum power input that this speker can receive around 40 RMS max. After that the speaker clips hard. More bass means the speaker will clip harder. However they excel in vocal/ midrange. Vocals are centered nicely especially female vocals. Treble and bass is a little subsided. VERY GOOD spatial information. Depth is OK too. Thats why I think this is a surround speakers, not a bookshelf or used as a main. If ever this speaker is used as a mian, the bass need to be passed on to a subwoofer. This is to avoid damaging the speaker. Build quality for a speaker this price is excellent(at least for my pair). Overall igive it a 3.

Strength:

Very good as a rear surround speaker

Weakness:

Can't handle a lot of bass.

I picked this pair up at Circuit City for $80 when I started out in Home theater. I originally used them as my front stereo speakers because I was on a budget, but after a few months realized they would be much more effective as rear surround speakers. They produce great mid-range tones. Overall it was $80 well spent.
