Timing, mid-range, flexibility with placement, LOOKS!!!

Nothing - except if you like bass to fart in your face - get front ported boom-boxes

^Price paid was £550 - but it wouldnt let me put the pound sign in! These are suberb speakers. I've always been a fan of castle products - maybe it's because they're manufactured just up the road from me - but i digress.. firstly, these are beautiful objects - mine are in an oak finish and they look magnificent [although sometimes i wished i'd gone for the yew finish - that was enough to knock your eyes out! But at £100 extra the wife wouldnt have it ;-( ] Forget about having to hide these speakers behind the sofa - they're the nicest piece of furniture in my house! And it doesn't matter where you place these speakers because they have a down firing bass port - no boominess - just tight tuneful bass, next to walls, in the open, in front of the wife ;-) Castle are one of those rare manufacturers who actually put effort into designing their cross-overs these days - consequently the pembrokes sound just as nice without bi-wiring as with. They have a really great sound at that - i found them best for my tastes in music out of the speakers i auditioned.. quad 12s, b&w 602 s3s .. the pembrokes shone through with a crisp mid-range - drums and cymbals sound so real - coltrane's absract masterpiece "ascension" always has me 'air-druming' like a maniac! Led zeppelin sounds equally good.. timing is something these pembrokes excell at. All in all a blindingly good speaker in a compact floorstander guise!
