I'm going to buy new speakers, so I have auditioned...
B&W DM603
Canton Fonum 650
Dali 350
JPW Millenium 1010

The B&W sounded clear and detailed with good bass and treble. Engaging and lively, with a nice touch of warmth to the bass.

The Dali sounded a bit leaner and "thinner" (i.e more accurate to the recording) thant he DM603. Drier and a distinct, rhytmic bass. A more detailed midband, and a detailed treble sum up this speaker.

The JPW came out as the worst here, with a big-boomy and overwarm bass and a
shut-in sound.

But the winner is... Canton. Quite similar in style to the Dali. Accurate to the recording, but a touch more punch in the bass. A middle road between the B&W and the very accurate and sleek Dali.

Handled both pop/soul (Tears For Fears: "Seeds of love" CD) and classical (various) with the same ease. An airy, smooth treble without harshness. Lively, but not "in yer face".
