Strength:

This set of speakers is nothing short of phenomenal. Highs, mids, lows (in particular when used together with a Beolab 2 (which the sets were actually designed to be used with)) are nothing short of outstanding. In order to get the same sound quality today, one would have to stretch to Beolab 50's - so if you have the chance to pick up a pair of Beolab 1's (ideally together with a Beolab 2) at a decent price, go for it. You will not regret it, despite their size and heft.

Weakness:

The only downside is, I would say, their size (1.86m tall) which can make them appear a bit large in a smaller room. However, the polished aluminium does a lot to "hide" them by reflecting the surrounding environment.

So, I have read so many reviews on the site that I felt I needed to share the experience I came into. What I thought was a misprint in a Craigslist ad ended up being the best buy I could ever come across! Listed was a pair of Beolab 1 speakers and a Beosound 3000 system together for an unbelievable price of only $100! I jumped on the ad to ask if $100 was truly the price and if they were still available and the answer to both questions was "YES"!! Well after researching these and finding out they cost $5100 when new, and $1700 for the receiver, new, I could get to an ATM fast enough and drive fast enough so that I would not loose this fantastic deal!
Well the stars were all aligned I last Sunday night and I am now the proud owner of what believe to be the best sounding speakers/system have ever heard or owned for that matter.
The speakers stand a extrodinary 6'2" tall and weigh in at 85 lbs each. I loaded then into my car and raced home to hook these bad boys up and I can honestly say I am totally blown away by the sounds produced by them. Each Active (amps built in) speaker column is built with a solid steel/aluminum base and beautiful brushed aluminum finish. 700 watt Class D "Ice Power(c)
amps push these with 450 watts to the woofers, 125 watt amps to the midrange, and 125 watt amps and are hermetically sealed for 0 distortion. These babies sing!! The Beosound 3000 AM/FM/CD player stands upright and two vertical smoked glass panels have motion sensors that sense your hand coming close to the unit and slide open opositeof each other to expose the CD unit and front control buttons. Pushing the "LOAD" button lifts the CD spindle cover and allows you to unload/reload another CD. The glass panels close to meet each other after a few moments and from there the remote controls the start, and column controls respectfully.
At very low volumes the quality of sound is immediately recognised and they seem to come to life as you slowly increase the volumn to near disturbing of the peace sound levels take over and an overall sense of enlightenment and joy fills the air! I have taken the time to play almost all of my favorite CD's and just cant believe the sounds i have been missing. I literally stole this equipment and dont think that i will ever come by another deal like this in my lifetime but one never knows, right?....
