Something went wrong with my last review-I must have mistakenly clicked on the wrong number. Over rating should be a 5. These speakers are that good. You will not be disappointed

Bottom Line:
The BESL Series 2.4 is is a kit, DIY speaker system. There are many kits that are available over the 'net. I searched dozens and dozens of sights, and much time on the Madisound board. Finally, I decided upon this speaker system from BESL.

The 2.4 is a MTM design, and uses SEAS T25 EXCEL tweeters. EXCEL is SEAS top-of-the-line. The SEAS midranges are not their top-of-the-line, but they are well constructed, quality drivers.

It is quite apparent that the speaker designer, Phil Bamberg, spent a long time refining the crossover and cabinets for this system. Phil is extremely knowledgable, and quite easy to talk to (yes, I spoke with the speaker designer!).

The cabinets are double-walled, very well constructed and VERY heavy. The workmanship on the cabinets is excellent. Crossover construction was simple.

Bottom Line:
This is a well designed speaker! All of my audio enthusiast friends are very impressed with its detail and sound stage. Two of my friends are NHT owners, and they both admit that they think the BESL 2.4 sound much better than their NHT 2.5's! The imaging is fantastic.

The attention to detail, from component selection to custom matching each set of drivers/crossovers, makes all BESL products a real value.

I also own the 2.2HT center channel and 2 Dual-10" Subwoofers to round out my HT system. The results are outstanding, with tight bass, and seamless voicing across the front. (I still need to replace my rear speakers with a set of BESL 1.2's)

Bottom Line:
The BESL Series 2.4's are an MTM design, using the Seas P17REX midbass drivers and the Seas T25-001 Excel tweeter. The quality of the drivers alone put's these monitors into elite company, even though they are the least expensive MTM monitors available from Bamberg Engineering Sound Lab.

These are available in a number of configurations as are all of BESL's products, everything from Drivers/Crossovers/Plans to a "flats kit", to completely assembled speakers. I bought the drivers, crossovers, plans and built the enclosures myself.

BESL is the only company I know of which custom matches the crossover to the drivers. When you order, drivers are pulled and broken in. The crossover is assembled, and then mated with your drivers. The FR is then measured, and compared against the lab reference speaker. If any anomilies exist, the crossover is tweaked until the target is met. The drivers are them marked and matched to the crossovers before being shipped to you. This process comes with every speaker in the BESL line, and is NOT an extra charge. This is BESL's way of insuring complete satisfaction.

The amount of design that has gone into these is impressive to say the least. Each midbass driver is housed in its own separate sub-enclosure, as is the tweeter. A "false cavity" houses the crossover in the rear of the enclosures, keeping them separated from the drivers. Each monitor consists of about 17 panels. The "internal enclosure" is constructed from 3/4" MDF, and then an outer layer of 1/2" hardwood is applied. Total enclosure thickness is 1-1/4" result in one of the strongest and non-resonant enclosures I have seen. If you rap on the side with your knuckle, you'll hurt your knuckle ;) - this construction explains that even giving their modest size, each completed speaker weighs in at 50 lbs!

As for the sound, I could go on with the adjectives. Let's just say they are without a doubt the finest speakers I have ever owned. I have them mated with a pair of the BESL Single-10" subwoofers in a bi-amped setup using a Marchand XM-9 crossover. The performance of this entire system never ceases to impress me, even after having it on-line for more than a year now.

If you're ready to try your hand at kit building, IMHO these are the finest kits available. If you're just looking for outstanding speakers, the finished speakers will go head to head with the most exotic commercial brands available.
