Advent Advent Model 500 Floorstanding Speakers

Advent Advent Model 500 Floorstanding Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Advent Corporation was founded by Henry Kloss (the "K" in "KLH"), a well-known speaker designer who had worked for AR and KLH, and was later to help found Cambridge Soundworks.

The Floor Standing Advent Model 500 speakers are among the most respected loudspeakers of the 1970s. Relatively large acoustic suspension speakers, they are known for their flat frequency response and remarkable bass response. Advent Model 500 speakers rival such classics as the AR-3as, AR-2 axs, and Dynaco A-25s, and received good reviews from respected publications like Stereophile.

Measuring 45’ tall, 12” wide, and 9” deep--the hexagon shaped mahogany veneered Advent Model 500 is a striking speaker to look at given its unique two piece modular design. The flat shaped powder coated reinforced black plastic midrange and tweeter housing holds a 5 inch rubber surround midrange and a 1” ferro-filled silk domed tweeter. The Midrange-tweeter assembly can be disconnected from the top of the mahogany base for portability and gives the speaker its detailed sound and imaging. The mahogany base encloses an 8” bass-reflex down-firing woofer that ports to the rear.

The result is full range audiophile sound that is striking to look at and covers the full range very adequately.

You will find very little information on these speakers anywhere. However, These speakers are EXCELLENT and BEAUTIFUL.

The Model 500 was not manufactured in the 1970's as this review states. These speakers were manufactured in '91 and '92.

If anyone has any questions about these, feel free to contact me.
