Strength:

Everything for the price.

Weakness:

None for the price.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that these had such good efficiency(90db), and a very deep reaching bass for 6.5" speakers. They are a warm speaker, but not muddy at all. They are being used as "mains" in conjunction with my "bright" Infinity Primus 160 "rears" and a Velodyne VX-10 sub. Sonic heaven!! They were so inexpensive I bought them just to experiment with, but found them to be as good as anything I have heard for under $400.O0. They are, by the way, the same speaker as Advent's AS2(same company) and can be found dirt cheap on E-bay. They use a Poly plastic coated fiber woofer/midrange (like JBL's PolyPlas..?).The binding posts are gold plated and bi wireable-another pleasant surprise; They have quality rubber surrounds for longevity. The 1" silk dome tweeter is warm with superb imaging. No one will go wrong buying these speakers at the ridiculosly low prices they are available on the net. They are well made at 27 lbs.each.The slim profile is pleasing to the eye and unobtrusivelooking in a room. Whatta deal!!

Strength:

they will pound hard without using much power from your amp, size is good, not too heavy or big if you are limited on space, bi wirable, always a benefit to sound quality, and best of all, very wallet friendly, so if you do kill them, not too much of a loss.

Weakness:

two way, as opposed to the more dynamic 3 way speaker, cabinet could be more attractive without grille on, posts don't accept banana plugs

these are wonderful speakers. for 3oo bucks, i truly have been satisfied in the year and a half i've owned them. perfect for someone who is building a system from scratch. good starter pair. i have these puppies bi wired with 12 gauge monster cable, no terminations, i like just using bare wire, and twisting the hell out of it, hey, i get bored. i have them powered by my harmon kardon hk3470 stereo receiver, and the osund is superb. granted i use a lethal infinity subwoofer, but the bass still pounds from the dual 6" woofers. i have them placed in my livingroom about 6 feet apart, amd slightly angled inward towards eachother, the best placement i have found, although my livingroom is rather small. these speakers i would recommend to anyone, as for myself, i'm saving for a sweet pair infinity alpha 5o's.

Strength:

If bought at Costco (see above), incredible dollar value. Good all-round performance. For the money nothing can touch them.

Weakness:

None at the price (see above).

The AR PS2262 is identical to the Advent AS2. That's right, I didn't say similar to, I said identical to (both companies are now owned by Recoton). Why do I tell you this? Because as I write this (Nov. 2002) you can buy the Advent AS2 at the truly unbelievable price of $75 per speaker at Costco. (To make these even more of a steal, I bought a pair when there was a $10-per-speaker rebate, so they wound up costing $65 dollars each.) I'm using them as rear speakers, and I'm not going to make any extravagant claims that they are one of the great speakers of the world or that the driver or build quality is anything special. But they are surprisingly good speakers, entirely listenable and surprisingly full-range, and at the giveaway price Costco is selling them for, they've got to be one of the greatest buys in audio history. If you want a home theater system at a terrific price, buy four of them at Costco, and a matching AR center channel speaker (widely discounted) somewhere else, and you'll have a an amazingly good, well-matched five-speaker system at a price your friends just won't believe. Maybe you won't either. Check it out.

Strength:

Great balance for my system. It totally amazes everyone who hears it.

Weakness:

May lack in the mid. I know the nad amp leads with the mid but it comes through balanced with these speakers. Love them.

Speakers sounded bad out of the box. Let them break in for about 30 hours and wow. Placement took a while for imaging to get right but works very well if not perfect. Running with a nad c370, denon dm370 and monster z1. Is better than the jbl s312, Polk, infinity and others I own that now sit in attic. I use a sub with the AR's for the really low end but I had to do that with all the other speakers except the jbl's. The most value addition to my system is the remodel to my room. Drywall instead of plaster, Packed walls with insulation, Carpet instead of tile, Acoustic ceiling and other small things for a total of $2500. The local hifi shop has nothing in his shop that sounds better as installed in his shop. I bevlieve My best money was spent on fixing the room instead of spending thousands on equipment to compensate for it.

Strength:

Smoothness 91db sensitivity Typical AR quality

Weakness:

Not the best at imaging Soundstage depth Midrange a *tad* recessed

I cannot find fault with these speakers other than imaging and soundstage depth. The ARs do not "disappear" on some recordings; some sounds (those on the L/R edges of the stage) seem to be stuck in the speaker box. For the most part though the sounds are where they should be. Since the speakers tend to have a forwardness to them the soundstage has little depth. It's more like hearing a wall of music instead of a vocalist in front of a bass in front of a drummer, etc. Forwardness does not mean brightness, by the way. AR makes a very listenable product. And yes, the dual 6.5" woofers can pump serious bass when provided some power. I have run mine off both an Onkyo A/V (no sub) and a Pioneer SX receiver and each combination yielded great full sound. I would not hesitate to recommend these lovely, inexpensive towers to those looking for a nice budget speaker.
