Strength:

Awsome new remote that you can point almost anyplace in the room and it works!!! unlike the older model you had to stand 1 foot in front of the unit, stick your left pinky toe in the air and it might work remote. The new remote is easy for me to use, has nice glow buttons on the black and silver face and controls my tv perfectly! All controls respond instantly The looks of the unit.. man it is sharp in gloss black and silver! You can also buy an all silver unit... I thought it was ugly compared to this except the silver unit has a nicer blueish lcd.. 1080i mode is simply stunning! 780p mode looks funny on my tv.. 780's colors also look funny like there is more yellow in the picture or green. But FLAWLESS AS STATED IT 1080i! included HDMI cable that is actually a decent cable! Not some fancy iridium plated, neon insulated, isobaric supercable that will make such a HUGE difference that no one in the real world could tell that you pay $200 for that gives you NO better picture on HD. But it does have a facy package! "yeah I hate Monster, can ya tell? haha" In short this player is worth every penny! Great job toshiba! Had mine a few weeks and it rocks! Best single disk player I have used to date and it will stay in my HT and not go to the open box shelf back at the store.

Weakness:

Everything about this unit is sexy except the orange lcd display... MAN BLUE WOULD HAVE BEEN SWEET... you have to order the all silver version to get a slighty blue lcd... ' Another grip is the powercord is a tad shorter than all the others I have tried.. it is about 48" long.. Just bairly enough...

Well I was really worried I would get dvd player like the sd5970 which has a nasty designed remote, higher than average failure rate and very slow to respond if not at all buttons... All I can say is WOW when it comes to the newly designed 5980! TOSHIBA ACTUALLY LISTENED TO ITS CUSTOMERS IT SEEMS FOR THEY FIXED IT ALL! Toshiba fixed all the stated bugs from the 5970 and put them in this sexy slick unit! I have this unit hooked to my 65" HD monitor from toshiba. Man I tell ya video never looked so good! I was blown away by the quality different in 1080i over my sony playstation dvd player I was useing before haha! For the money paid I highly reccomend this unit!
