Strength:

Pro: 1) Play MP3, VCD, DVD, KARAOKE VCD, KARAOKE DVD, SVCD, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW and Slideshow made by Nero. 2) The picture quality and sound are not bad. It''s froze twice but after clean the Cd seem to play normal. 3) When open... the tray spin slower than APEX5131, which prevent CD from getting stuck or flying out. 4) 3 disks DVD which is great for watching more than 1 movie.

Weakness:

Con: 1) No Power button on the remote. This is suck!! I am not sure why GE care about the dimmer display button. It''s should be more useful as a POWER ON/OFF button. 2) Only display 8 characters for MP3 tittle(AFSDFDTD). 3) The tray hold the CD should be deeper and the disk # should be white or other color for easy to see. 4) The design is too simple.

I purchased the GE5803P at Walmart for about 4 months. I have play about 100 CD and it''s work great. Below are Pro and Con which I found when test out the DVD player. Where is that power ON/OFF button????

Strength:

1) Sound and picture quality. 2) 3 disks system, does allow to change disk while watching DVD movie. 3) Play DVD, VCD, CDR, CDRW, SVCD, and may be DVDRW. It also play Karaoke VCD and DVD with no problem.

Weakness:

No power on/off on the remote. There is a useless DIMMER button. Slow loading

This review is for GE 5803P. The GE 5803P work very well for me. I bought itS in the end of 2001 and have not had any problem. It even play home make SVCD slideshow from my computer. I did consider APEX AD5131 but didn''t purchase its because of a) Disk spin too fast when tray open can cause jam b) Too many defect and unrealiable.

Strength:

plays 99.9% of the movies

Weakness:

remote is ugly, hard to use, overheats when left on and you have to unplug it for several hours to use it again

I now have an Emerson Ewd7001 Dvd Player. It plays nothing fancy was less than 100.00. I got my money's worth I think ( OH PS: it won;t play the new disney movie Atlantis..compatibility problem says disney) anyhow I got this one becasue my crappy GE had a mind of it's own, It would take sometimes up to 1 hour of opening and closing and power on and off to get something to play , then if I was real lucky after all of that and just getting into the movie, It may continue to run and not freeze up. Well I got so mad I stuck it under the bed and went and got a 100.00 player. Which was doing fine ( but if you forget to turn it off, it overheats and then you have to unplugg it for several hours to get it to do anything ( this is the emerson). I can live with that though, I mean I got what I paid for with the emerson, It works more often than the GE did.

But as a word of good fortune for the GE, After about an hour of playing with it I did Get to See Disney's Atlantis.

Weakness:

None So Far...

I've found a daimond in the rough with this one. The 1105P has the Software Upgrade and has performed beautifully. I've only watched 2 movies so far: Payback (Mel Gibson) and Switchback (a 1997 Sleeper with Danny Glover/Dennis Quaid). But the performance has been superb. I believe this player is made by Samsung for Thomson Electronic. But nonethless, I was able to connect the player to my 36" GE, and stereo system in under 15 minutes. Very nice! I have not experienced any of the problems mentioned above. I bought mine from Best Buy for $169, and it comes a freed DVD from Best Buy Corporate, just have to send in a copy of the receipt and the UPC tag from the box. Overall, I'd recommend this player, not only as an entry-level unit, but as a great sounding, and great picture that it produces.

Strength:

Inexpensive, quiet, well made.

Weakness:

On screen menus a little hard to navigate

This product is a no frills but very stable and quiet DVD player..it has the software upgrade and I have experienced no problems with any DVD played...I have rented most of the DVDs and have not cleaned them before using. The universal remote works well and is pre-programmed for most brands. I am very pleased. I understand that the unit is of Samsung manufacture but have not experienced any of the problems cited for this brand in the past..perhaps the software upgrade has solved them?

price, picture quality, sound

none yet

purchased this dvd player along with a rca 25" tv for my son for christmas. since i bought both, i couldnt afford top of the line dvd. since i read bad reviews after i already bought it, i asked him about lip sync, etc. he's played about 10 dvd's including entrapment without a problem. i checked it out when i set it up for him and was amazed at the picture and sound quality, about as good as my sony and toshiba. maybe i got lucky, but very pleased so far.

Weakness:

You name it

Obtained this unit as a present. After trying out about 10 DVD discs on it, I noticed CONSIDERABLE out of sync 'lip sync' problems (much like the old Bruce Lee films), many skips and pauses, and much picture breakup (pixxelation). I figured that I just got a 'bad unit', and then picked up another GE model that was a bit more expensive (the 1105P), and it too, exhibited drastic problems of every kind mentioned above!! Come to think of it, I believe this is a Thomson Consumer Electronics product, and Consumer's Reports have really criticized the lack of quality of their TV's throughout several fairly recent issues. Bottom line... GE DVD is garbage, and it is outrageous that they are trying to pass on this junk to unwary consumers!! STAY AWAY FROM GE!!!

Strength:

Easy setup, even the remote. Awesome sound quality.

Weakness:

Picture will pixellate if you do a lot of fast fwd/rew and go back to regular play, but it corrects in about 2 seconds.

I think it was a good player for the price. It certainly blows away VCR picture quality and the sound is great. I used the s-video connector and the picture seems flawless. I have not had any problems to date and am pleased with my purchase. I know a lot of problems have been reported with these players, but mine (a 1105p w/soft upgrade) has had none. A few features are lacking like zoom but really, who cares? I would reccommend this product in it's current form without hesitation.

THIS SUCKS!!!!! Everything not mentioned above!!!

This has to be the worst purchase of my life....thank god for the 90 day warrenty. I set everything up in under 15 minutes wich was nice, but after that the problems started! First off it wouldnt recognize 2 of the first 3 movies i tried, and then on the one i did get to work the movie skipped about every 10 seconds. I brough it right back to Wally World and upgraded to a Sony!! i suggest u do the same!!
