Strength:

Nice color

Weakness:

Nothing to the unit, cheap parts, ulgy case design, poor performance, overpriced at $200+. should be a $29.00 unit

Very disappointed with this product. This unit replaced my Toshiba that stopped playing a vast amount of my DVD's. I want a Samsung to match my Samsung DLP, but was talked into the Denon instead. Unit worked great until 11 months old, then stopped playing discs and wouldnt respond to menu commands.

I called Denon, they said send to repair center. What a joke. 6 weeks later still havent received it. They said the unit was a cheap unit, but should have lasted 2-3 years min.

This was my first Denon unit and will be my last.

Customer Service

SUCKS, worst ever. Had to call 5 times to get a service request in, only to be told to call an authorized service center. The Authorized service center sucked too

Quality

Hello, Please keep in mind this is my experience only.Don't want to start any wars. That being said this player stinks.I am a big Denon fan.I have owned the following,1600,1910,2200,and now am waiting for the 2910 to arrive from crutchfield. The 1910 is very poorly made.Thats why its so lite.If you don't beleive me take the cover off. There is hardly any thing in there.Big gaping spaces where quality components are supposed to be.Also what i found troubling is they advertise on the face plate DCDI Fouroujia.Well inside there sits the SIL 504 chip.Says so,printed right on the chip.Very surprised Denon would do this.Especially since this was the reason i bought it.I prefer the DCDI to the silicone image chip.I always thought the 1600 with DCDI looked better than my current 2200 with the SIL chip. Thus the reason for me getting the 2910.Then again i think my expectations may have been to high for a 200.00 player. The picture it produces on my 73 mits is full of macro blocking, artifacting. Also Black scenes like stars in space are greenish. This improved when i stopped using DVI and switched to component out.But still low quality picture. This may be a fluke for Denon with this model.Just letting you know my uniqe experience with it.If your looking at this player i suggest you go to audiogon or ebay and grab a used 2200 or my choice 1600 for about 250.00 or so.You will be much happier.Cheers and happy movie watching.

Nice Burr Brown audio DACs

Weakness:

Macroblocking Poor general PQ

I returned this product after 3 weeks. It suffered from the macroblocking and artifacting common to the Faroudja FLI2301 and FLI2310 chips. Poor PQ in general and random macroblocking. This issue may be display dependedant, but it also could be a Denon/Faroudja issue.

Good value, strong video performance, easy to use

Weakness:

Budget looks

I wanted a player that performs better than the average mass market player but didn't feel like spending highend dollars. Something to get me by until HD DVD arrives. I took a chance and bought the Denon DVD 1910 and was pleasantly surprised. It looks just like another cheaply made player. It weighs a mere 5 pounds and has a no frills display. It turns out that this is not just another budget player. Don't let it's light weight fool you. Its a very special player indeed. Video performance is on par much more expensive players. If all you need is a solid DVD player and dont need all of the other features like SACD decoding, etc. look no further. The 1910 is a great performer. Take the leap of faith as I did and you will be pleasantly surprised. The ability to taylor video sharpness, color, contrast, etc. is great feature. This player blows away the Sony it replaces.

Strength:

Light, Great Sound and Picture. COmponent Output, DVI

Weakness:

Noisey when DVD or CD is Idle.

I purchased this shortly after my Panasonic 5 disk DVD player refused to ever open up again. I am very happy I purchased this DVd player. I have an Hitachi 53" Widescreen HDTV -the DVI or HDMi.( 3yrs. old). I cannot get over the picture quality of this unit. The Faroudja processing makes a huge difference. No jagged edges anywhere like I saw with my Panasonic and Toshiba DVD players. Audio CD's sound very good. Connected to my Denon 3805. Using Pure Direct Mode makes a Huge Difference. I just have a question about the noise output from this Player. Does anyone here hear an annoying Spinup noise when any DVD or CD is sitting in the unit Idle? It tends to get quiet when it starts to play, but @ idle tends to be a little noisey. Other then that, great purchase for a Unit that only costs $220. If you get your TV calibrated right this thing looks great. I can't get over the way this sounds too. Hoping to get 2910 so I can play SA... This is an expensive hobby huh? Nothing like trying to get the best Sound and picture money can buy. Sucks being anal about stuff like this... I can only imagine what DVI ouyput looks like with this unit. Component Looks Great. By the way, have you looked at Photo CD's on this unit? Pictures look better then on my PC.

Strength:

Superb video; plays DVD-R media well. Remote works well without having to "bull's-eye" at the player.

Weakness:

None.

This review is particularly for us poor folks who are still using RP HDTVs without the DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and/or the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface). My expensive, but low-rated Pioneer Elite DV-45A DVD player did not play DVD-R media well. I researched replacement DVD players for two days at local stores and on the Internet. I decided on the Denon DVD-1910 for its price, the Faroudja chip, and feature mix (plays DVD-R/RW & DVD+R/RW, etc.). I’ve heard so much about the Faroudja chip, I just had to try the DVD-1910. I could not find a system that included the Faroudja, but did not have the DVI. I connected the Denon player to my 65" Mitsubishi Diamond RP HDTV theater system using the Monster Cable component cables and fiber optics digital audio cable, and set the Denon at progressive scan. The Denon performed at 480P flawlessly, virtually right out of the box. The Denon menus are very intuitive; I did not have to read the manual right away. The DVD-R disks that did not play well in the Pioneer were used in the new Denon. Those DVD-Rs played perfectly, without a hitch! To test the overall visual and audio quality of the Denon, I used my favorite test video DVDs: “Monsters Inc.” and the Superbit version of “The Fifth Element.” Dear folks, I have high definition cable programming coming in to my TV and to tell you the honest truth, the picture from the Denon-1910 was very, very close to high-definition quality. I was dazzled! I cannot imagine, in my case, how the quality could get much better using the DVI capabilities. I could not find any evidence of the famous “macroblocking” problem (blotches of digital noise mainly in backgrounds caused by the MPEG compression process). Nor did I see any evidence of the “green push” in the blacks discussed in “Secrets of Home Theater DVD Benchmark Review/Shootout (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/cgi-bin/shootout.cgi). While you are at this web site, notice that the Denon DVD-1910 had an 82 out of 100 score, and my old Pioneer had a score of only 34! Tells me something.

Strength:

Outstanding dvi picture quality, never used any other connection. Great unit for the money!

Weakness:

Its light and cheap feeling. But its all about the quality video!

Purchased this unit to try the dvi feature on my plasma. This entry level player totally blows away the most expensive units with its dvi picture. This unit will hold me until blu ray hits the market. I am stunned at the picture quality thru dvi. I will tell you that the two channel audio is not near audiophile quality. But at this price, what do you expect? Its decent 2 channel, but not like the Toshiba 9200 or the Sony 9000es or the Arcam78 etc...you get my point. Anyway, you should have a dedicated cd player anyway for music. All I can say is that the dvi from this unit is truly a pleasure to view.

Best BANG for the BUCK right here fellas!! The 1910 is an excellent DVD player for both video and audio. I am currently running it off a component hookup at 480p until I get a new HDTV with and HDMI hookup. It has Burr-Brown processors which really makes it sound soooo good. I have it hooked up to a Denon 3805 and Klipsch Reference speakers. I also just installed the new firmware update- Version 1.12

Video quality @ 1080i Audio channel seperation

Weakness:

No DVI button on remote. Small LED screen

It's not often that I buy something that I want to squawk about, but this DVD player is outstanding in just about every way. Video quality is fantastic, and the sound is a lot better than my old Proscan unit. Very clear audio, and the seperation of each individual channel is the best i've ever heard.

Strength:

Picture and audio via digital connectivity: DVI for video, and digital coax for audio (for home theater).

Weakness:

Component (RGB) cable video quality. CD audio quality not top notch.

I just bought the Sony 42WE610 HDTV and I was playing DVDs via a playstation2. It actually had better video than I would have expected, but the picture did look grainy and dark. The Denon DVD-1910 was a big improvement in video quality. I hooked up the video to my TV via the DVI connector. I hooked up the audio to my surround sound processor via the Digital Coax. In this configuration, I am very happy with the DVD player. I also tried hooking up the component (RGB) outputs to the TV. The picture is significantly worse than the DVI connection. Hooking it up via DVI is a must in my opinion. I compared the digital audio output to my 10 year old Rotel CD player. The Denon was ok, but I think the Rotel CD player is still better, richer audio. I didn't really expect this, since my digital surround sound processor is doing the D to A conversion in both cases. I suppose reading the digital bit-stream being read off a CD disk is being done differently by the CD player and the DVD player, or else I wouldn't hear a difference. I thought I would be able to sell my CD player after getting this DVD player, but I'm keeping it. For some reason I can't get my "Universal" remote (Rotel) to communicate with the Denon DVD player. I tried the code "059", but that didn't work. I also used the remote's search feature, and it never found a code. I'm not sure why (does anyone know the 3-digit device code of the dvd-1910?) Anyway, my universal remote does operate the audio, cd player, cable box and tv, but not the DVD player. I have to keep that remote out.
