Summary: I bought this to use while commuting on public transport. I already have a portable CD player for this purpose but was not happy with the bulk. This MD player is perfect and as for the sound quality, I could not tell the difference.
Strengths: Compact size, light weight and the use of ordinary AA battery, ie. not a special SONY battery. NiMH battery works very well with mine. Also, with the supplied D/A converter that plugs into the USB port, is used to pump music out from the PC to my bookshelf HiFi.
Weaknesses: The time it takes to record a MD. I've learnt to deal with this however;-) Also, the menu took some time to get used to.

Summary: Great portable mini disc player, which never jumps and makes great recordings. So small and gives good enough playback too.
Must mention that you can totally record digitally on this unit, use the optical cable supplied with the unit running from your optical output on your CD player, amp or receiver in to the input socket on the player. This input allows you to use both optical cables, digital coaxial plugs and analogue coaxial plugs. It senses which you are using automatically.
Strengths: Good sound, reliable, well made in metal. Supplied with good accessories like decent headphones (no remote), optical digital cable and case.
Weaknesses: Not the most intuitive menu system, but this is a small player so Sony have done OK.

Summary: Love this player. I bought it also for use when bicycling b/c its size is perfect, no larger than a wallet. Easy to record from a computer, stereo, you name it, anything that has an earphone jack.
Strengths: Compact size. Features, ability to record in 4 different qualities/times. recordable up to 5hours on one disk. Easy to edit recorded music. Seems much easier than MP3s or Rio
Weaknesses: Doesn't always catch track marks between recordings, but very easy to go in and place them manually.
