$0.00 Summary: Hello Audio Review and reviewers!
Back in the summer of 2010, my sony MZM10 mindisc player died and I was disappointed. (I purchased this in 2005.) It was pretty durable, with the front and back being somewhat metal and the sides were made of durable plastic. it comes with a NiMH battery and an extra piece to for one AA battery, extending battery life.
When I purchased the MZRH1 or the MZM200. I noticed a lot more parts right out of the box.
The AC adapter was two pieces and was pretty bulky, also it only came with one LI-ion battery. Too bad it doesn't have the extra compartment for the AAs. Another accessory is the product came with 1gb Hi MDwhich is good.
After examining the RH1/MZM200, it was extremely light and the body was comprised of 100% metal. It was so light that I get that feeling that it wouldn't last long so had to keep it in my case for my other recorders to prevent damage.
From that point I went through the manual and started using it. I was a little disappointed with the placement of the function buttons and the new minidisc player was pretty counter-intuituve as compared to my MZM10. Instead of a 5 line led display, the RH1 only had a 2 line display it comes with a wired remote to adjust your settings, such as sound; normal, D-normal and surround options, also you can adjust the volume using the remote. The volume buttons on the player are very small and I had to use more pressure for operation. Now the good part: Since I'm a classical musician and like to record birds and other sounds this is where the quality stands out. Mine came with a L-R stereo mic also and the the recordings were very accurate. Just make sure the mic is not to close to the minidisc player because of motor noise. I experimented with different styles of music like Bruce Hornsby, and classical, and rock and found that recording in SP mode is the best sounding with the give-in take of battery power. In fact I've recorded approximately 7 hours of audio with the Hi-SPmode. My advice, if your are an audiophile you might want to use PCM recording quality but you'll get less time to record and this will also lessen battery life. If you want to record over 30 hours of audio use the LP mode. This will save battery life but sounds will lossy and you will hear artifacts.
Finally if you have the older minidiscs you can play/record with this too.
Unfortunately the MiniDisc is phasing out. (I hope not) So I bought about 10 HiMDs. They really don't cost too much and in fact the 80 minute MDs are even cheaper, only costing a few dollars each.
I paid about 450.00. I feel the price is too high with the features it has. I like the product, but i'm giving the MZRH1/MZM200 an average rating because of the price/value comparison.
