What a piece of caca! Had 2, the first one just fell apart after 6/7 months and the second would only work with the power supply after the same period of time, great thing to happen for a portable minidisc!

Strengths:
Will not vaporize if you live it in the box.

Summary:
Unit was purchased new on ebay. I'm not sure of the date.

I use this unit to record live sound output from a Mackie mixer. When playing back the recordings, it often runs 24 hours a day. It's run continuously for more than 2 weeks at a time. After being subject to this for more than 2 years, the motor has begun to sometimes stop when it's layed on its back. Consequently, I keep it vertical.

Recording is very convenient. I set the remote right on the piano and toggle the pause botton between musical selections.

Strengths:
Amazingly reliable. Sounds good enough for background music in a restaurant. I just set it on "repeat" and it keeps on going. Customers usually can't tell if it's I or "Virtual Mark."

Weaknesses:
There is a noticeable difference in quality when you compare the input to the output (live music). However, if you figure in expense and convenience, it's better than anything else I've used.

The mz-r70 is a great md-player recorder, he is very small has great looks and is very easy to use. You can use all types of media to record md's for example t.v, computer hi-fi set, so you can build up a huge collection of songs you like. As if this wasn't enough the mz-r70 is compatible to different systems for example you're at a party and you want your friends to hear this song you recorded you can connect the mz-r70 to the hi-fi set with the audio out cable (supplied)and let the party go on! Also when you're driving in a car you can buy an adaptor (looks like a cassette with cable) and listen to your favorite songs isn't it great? The mz-r70 is also very strong I dropped it two times badly on the same corner but it still works perfectly I also work at sony netherlands repair service plaza and I can tell you the mz-r70 is very rarely seen here that really means in my opinion that this is a very decent model. Last but not least the signal/sound is amazingly clear the md-player automaticly filters sound while recording to only what people can hear, altough I must say that digital recording (making use of the optical cable that is supplied) is the highest quality. I use the mz-r70 for two hours a day (travel time) and have joy of each second listening to it and think that it is the one of the best inventions ever (after playstation 2 that is hehehehe).

Summary:
I bought the R70 about 2 years ago, and it's an amazing little machine. Recording is super easy with the synchro-record in digital. Thanks to the optical cable, I can record right off my dvd player, and get minimal signal loss. The R70 is insanely tough, too. It's been knocked off all kinds of stuff and still works. Yeah, it can be noisy for a few seconds when reading the disc and buffering the song, but who cares? a) it's not that loud, b) the noise lasts maybe 10-15 seconds and then stops for the majority of the song. In short, it's sweeeet.

Strengths:
Tough (all metal body), excellent sound quality (even though the audio is compressed), long battery life, no md deck needed to record, cheap media.

Weaknesses:
Stock rechargable battery is pretty weak and the stock remote is pretty ugly
