Review 5 of 7

Summary:
I had the Sony MZ-R37 for about 4 months and I'm really impressed. It sounds great, especially if you have eqipment with digital out. I went out and bought a new soundcard with Tos-link just to get the best sound. You can now find one bundled with a "usb download kit," It will give you a good digital recording without buying lots of expensive new equipment.

Strengths:
It has an excellent price (I paid $170) and an excellent sound, the form factor is nice but i wish it were a little smaller. 40 second anti-skip is nice too, hasn't skipped once!

Weaknesses:
Probably the biggest con is the tiny screen. You can't see much, and there is no backlight, it gets the job done, though. Also there is no screen on the remote at all. Its a little bulky but not to bad, it is light though. The buttons are really small (the remote isn't bad though) and the device isn't very intuitive. It'll take a day or two to really get comfortable with it. There are better recorder/players out there, but for the price this one can't be beat.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
