Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $100.00 from hifi shop

Summary:
I buy that MD for a very cheap price and some how I didnt satistied the sound that produced and I searhed in web and read the critics and I surprised, because they all positive. But I'm so happy to read previous review so that at least someone is agree with me. Even you can't notice the difference in Home Theatre system ( I used SONY STRDB930 Amplifier and Infinity SP2 speaker ) .. but, when I repeat the test with ROTEL RC972 preamplifier, CEC amp31 power amplifier and Acoustat Spectra 11 ) I really hear the disturbtion on the sound.

Strengths:
price, rich inputs and outputs

Weaknesses:
sound quality

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Local HiFi store

Summary:
This is an entry level player. The sound is not nearly as good as ES -range player, or even QS -range player.

It is ridiculous to give 5/5 for overall rating, when reviewer does not have the clue of the sound quality that new high-end MDs can offer to you.

If you have this cheap player and better cd at home, always remember to make D/A -conversion in the cd -player.

All in all, its good entry-level start to world of MiniDisc, but there is so much more to offer in the higher segments.

Strengths:
fairly good sound

Weaknesses:
Plastic looks, ATRAC 4.5, 20bit a/d -converter,

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $300.00 from Richer Sounds

Summary:
This is a review of the 510 that I bought in March '97.

I bought it when MD was just taking off in England, and so the price was high compared to now.

The sound quality, detail, bass and top end are incredible for the price paid. It is only narrowly noticable compared to the the sound of my Arcam DV88 DVD player when used as a CD player. Admittedly the soundstage is not a wide, but you really have to closely compare to notice.

The functionality is also incredible, though it has long been over taken by the newer Sony models, it really does highlight the possibilities of MD over CD recorders, DCC, MP3 and tape.

Solidly built but still light, this machine doesn't mind being moved and reconnected and feels like a quality piece of kit through the dampened click of the tobble wheel to the smooth mechanism that loads and unloads the MD's themselves.

The only short coming is the the lack of more digital in/outs and the newer functions that MD's these days have.

These are the only reasons that I'll look to upgrade, though to get something significantly better, I'll probably have to pay far more than I did on this machien.

If you can get your hands on a second hand one for your first MD deck, do it, it's a simple to use quality machine.

Strengths:
Sound
Functionality
Build

Weaknesses:
Number of digital in/outs

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Richer Sounds

Summary:
I have the more recent 530 model of this player. Just thought i'd start the reviews rollin. I've had it nearly a year now, bought for £150 from Richer Sounds UK. I've had no problems, this thing is great for recording digital music from CD. Shame u cant copy MD to MD though... It has all the functions u'll ever need, including the fade in and out function which is useful - you can professionally fade out recordings at the end. Overall, great piece of kit. Slim for a MD player too.

Strengths:
Functions, Sound, Compatibility

Weaknesses:
Plastic Cover

JE520
