$0.00 Summary: I was helping a friend of mine put together a second stereo system, he wanted a sytem that he could put in a rolling rack so it would be portable, kind of a personal DJ set up, but with good stereo components. He bought a nice used Adcom amp and preamp, and some very nice Cerwin Vega speakers, but to make it all fit in the rack he decided to go with DJ style front end units, he got a DJ CD player that works well enough and doesn't sound bad, but he also got this Denon minidisc unit. We both use minidisc a lot to record our band practices and for song writing, and most of all to make compilations of our favorite songs. This unit is really well put together and looks solid, like it was more for recording studios than DJs, and it has many controls on the front that we may never know what they actually do, but what I do know is that it sounds fantastic! When he plays back his compilations they are just as full and robust, bass is solid and punchy without any boomyness or smearing, nice and tight, The highs are really smooth, that being the most troublesome part of minidisk playback, this unit is really smooth and perfectly clear and bright at the same time. While the rest of the unit is not what everyone would want in their living rooms, and the controls are confusing at best, it is the most pleasing sounding minidisc player I have ever heard, and I've heard quite a few. I am now looking to buy one myself for my second system, I was just so blown away by how good this unit sounds that I must have one for myself. I'll download the instructions and learn to operate it later.
