problems reading CD-R

Nice features for the price, digital output and CD-TEXT, but the big problem comes when you try to play CD-R (burned CD's) on this machine. It simply couldn't detect some of mine, despite no problems with other cheaper players (even portables) reading this discs.
If you make your own compilations and own recordings, skip this player.

Great Sound Quality, Load of Extra Features, Works Great with Hi-Mid-Fi Equipment

None besides the track changing between discs.

I received this product for Christmas just one year ago after purchasing a Harman/Kardon AVR20II. It works great with my receiver and I was happy with the taste of my parents who purchased the CD player for me. I love all the great features that it offers, including the CD Text and "Exchange Disc" options. I have no complaints about the sound quality and was told by an audiophile who owns a Denon player, that it is comparable to the higher end units. I highly reccomend this CD player for the first-time audio enthusiast. If anyone can let me know where to find CD Text enabled CD's and what label they're under, I'd appreciate it!

Slower disc access time compared to other 'competition'.

This is a nice player for the money, and I have had no problems with Sony thus far (knock on wood). My speakers (Magneplanar MG-12QR's) are quite revealing and detailed, and this CD player shows nothing bad during playback. As long as it will last me a few years, and is mechanically sound, I give it a 5 star rating. Am very pleased.

Nakamichi CDC-200

This is overall a very good CD player for the money. I've had it for 3 years, and am very pleased with it. However, advice to anyone who buys this is to bear with it. Sometimes when you press too many buttons too quickly, and relocate CDs, etc, it has a tendency to "eat" CDs. By "eat", I mean that the CD skips out of the tray inside the machine. I solve this problem by opening the tray, then turning off the power... then I unplug the CD player and shake it (gently).... Usually the CD will just fall out, unharmed. Granted, this isn't exactly an ideal situation, but hey, if you've got more $$$, buy something better. This CD player has tons of great features... and like I said, if you're not trigger-happy with the remote, it shouldn't swallow up any of your CDs anyway.

Got this unit for 189.00 not the best price I have seen but anyway......ok now for the real picky people like myself I will skip the sounds great for under 200 etc etc.......first the gripes this thing changes discs too slowly for my taste.......optical digital out is nice but a Coaxial should have been included......Cd text is nice for cds that have this encoded on them but......when you enter your own text for cds that do not have this you only have enough room for 13 letters including spaces if memory serves correctly.this is not enough ..also will not always display what you entered why? I don't know...
...also I am not sure if this is a prob with this unit for all 5 disc changers _____this is for those who plan on burning your own cds____when recording onto my Philips CDR 870 (not 880)
with the toslink, this disc changer will add extra track numbers to the disc I am creating____not sure it is the disc or the player because this is not consistent____example I record 1 track from sony and want to skip to disc 2 and record one track (this is all programed) the Philips will be on track one then the sony will send a track change to the Philips at the end of track one while it changes to the next disc instead of waiting until track 2 to start_____so when 2 starts the Philips detects this ____now it's on track three
This is a huge pain in the a$$.......does this sometimes......my dreams of making a disc unattended are still just that........could this be the Discs, the Ph or the Sony???? Ok now for the good stuff....Mega control to control 100 or 200 sony mega changers...volume control on remote digital optical out.....sounds good for the money.....seems like a solid product....Cd text and the ability to change out 4 disc while you listen to the fifth
so that you don't inturupt you listening pleasure....I guess this feature is common now for 5 disc changers
not a bad unit but if any of these things bother you look to another Sony or another brand for that matter....

Overall this is an excellent value! I've had it for a couple of years and played a zillion discs thru it, I love the CD-text feature (BTW, to the guy that asked earlier, Sony record labels;columbia, epic, etc, have factory CD-text)-If your computer had a burner and Adaptec CD Creator, you can burn your own discs and label the songs anyway you like! I use the exchange feature all the time in making compilation discs/tapes you can keep loading the trays while recording the output. I like the shuffle all disc feature of not repeating a played track until you eject. Programming is easy, has a nice sound (great for the little $) You know the Sony rule; NEVER buy the first of a new product or design and don't buy the top or bottom of their lines and you'll be fine... I know-I sold them for years!

Tascam CDRW-700

This is Sony's replacement for the CDP-CE515. It's a standard Sony 5 disc changer with the usual options, a decent remote (and most importantly) a TOS link digital out (for recording to DAT or MD). It changes discs a little more slowly than one would expect, although it will allow you to play one and change for. If you see it for $200, and you hate the CD jukebox models (as I do), then this is a fine CD player for the digital recording junkie. It teams up well with an MD deck. Nothing out of the ordinary, but not entirely disappointing, either.

I have yet to buy this player, but for what you can get it on Netmarket, $155 + $13 shipping, I don't see how you can go wrong.
I sampled it at a local shop, and was a bit surprised at the speed, or lack thereof, in changing discs. Then again, this was my first encounter with a multidisc player.

I then sampled carousels from Yamaha, and Technics and they were about the same speed with respect to changing discs.

Again, for what you get, along with the silent changing mechanism, for the price I don't see how a person could complain.

I have had this cd player for the past 3 months, and I figure I got what I paid for ($199). It is very quite (my 10 yr old 5 disc made a ton of noise switching) but it is not very fast changing discs. One the tray locates, it seems to take an eternity reading the disc information. Sometimes I'm afraid it's locked up like a computer running Windows 95. Sound quality is fine. I bought it for the Digital Out so I can connect it to my reciever (Sony STR-DA30ES) and use it's DAC's. I hear a difference when I switch between, likeing the 30ES DAC's more. It has great features (CD Text, cd memo, optical out, mega changer control) at a very reasonable price. For the cash, it's great.

I've had this player for a few months and I love it. I have yet to see a $200 disc-changer that competes with this one in terms of features and signal-noise ratio. It's sleek, easy to use, and the remote is great. The disc-changing time is hardly noticeable. For $200 you can't go wrong.
