Summary:
I bought the Marantz CD4001 CD player refurbished. It has a very open sweet sound. I originally had a NAD CD player which I thought was alright, and bought this Marantz on a hunch. I was immediately amazed at the difference in the sound. The Marantz sounded so much sweeter and atmospheric. I later tried a new Sony SACD player, but returned it, the Marantz sounded alot better. I just recently bought a used Mcintosh MCD7005 CD player, and I wanted the Mcintosh to sound better because I have a Mcintosh amp, and preamp/tuner. The Mcintosh CD player was in excellent condition, and built like a steel outhouse, but the Marantz walked all over it in sound quality, of course the Mcintosh is probably about 25 years old. Anybody want to buy a beautiful Mcintosh MCD7005? The 4001 will play any CDR I put in it. The Marantz is like most electronics today put together as cheap as they can get away with, but if I could afford any CD player I wanted, I'd stick with Marantz for now.
