This is the best sounding CD player I have heard. The back rounds are black and the dynamics are beyond compare. The power supply is massive and I believe this accounts for its superb dynamics.Highs are liquid and the sound stage is wide and deep. For a digital source there is a nice analog quality about this player.Sounds great through Magnepan 1.6QRs

Strength:

Very solid and well built. Variable line RCA jack output so you can go directly into an amp.

Weakness:

Technology from late 80's.

This is easily my favorite CD player i've ever owned. The unit is solid metal and quite heavy, with solid milled aluminum feet, dual power supplies and pathways, and variable line outs. I have mine going directly into an amplifier and using a pair of Magnepan planar speakers. I believe at the time, this was one of Yamaha's top 2 flagship models, aimed at the high end marketplace.

The unit itself sounds well balanced and warm, with a certain depth and soundstage that is brought about by a good set of speakers.

I wish Yamaha and other manufacturers would put the same quality into building CD players (or other consumer electronics) like the CDX-1100U.

Strength:

Solid build, Heavy 14 KGS. Big and purposeful looking. Twin power suppliies. Supurb internal construction.

Weakness:

DACs may be a bit dated. Burr Brown 56Ps. However I use it as a transport so it does not matter.

Model year is 1987. Not 1995 as your selector does not go back that far.
Outrageously solid build (14KG) which would be hard to find on any mass market CD players today. Twin "Massive" overkill powers supplies. The internal construction of the whole unit is something to admire; Separate partitioned circuit boards for control, DAC, and power supply circuits. Coaxial digital output.
If someone is reading this can you tell me if this is 4 or 8 times oversampling Hi Bit digital filter? Twin DAC(Burr Brown PCM56Ps are a bit dated.). I know the next model- CDX1110- has 8 times oversampling.
Sounds good on its own. Quite smoothed off in the treble. Resolving power may be limited but at least it doesnt sound too bright as I am using Yamaha NS1000Ms which can sound forward. However it also makes a great transport for MSB link DAC.
