Gotta say something good about a dumpster find. Looks brand new after wiping dust of it. Good to know someone didn't think much of the remote 'cause it wasn't in the dumpster with the CD changer. Works great. Unfortunately it doesn't read RW disks. Can't complain - the price is right. I'll give it 5 stars for value - ha ha.

The truth I have been testing this CD player against the sounds and performance of a Top of the line Denon and a Sony. The music quality is as good if not better and for the money no one could ever go wrong, Kenwood has done a nice job on this unit! If I could rate it higher I would, time is catching up with the others and soon they will be a thing of the past, thats for sure! Keep up the good work Kenwood time is on your side the people are catching on.

not a power button on the remote

I got the cd player at the end of december and use it with my JVC reciever and two floor-standing PIONEER speakers, and three other fisher speakers. It sounds great even better than my father's sony. If you are looking for a great cd player to add to your audio system, look no further. This has to be the best cd player for the money!!!!!!!!

Not having been a big fan of cds I hold little expectations from any cd player regardless of price. Having listened to several brands and owning a sansui model cd player, I decided on the kenwood 204 primarily for 2 reasons. First the imaging and transient reponse was better than most and surpassed by none. Second, I purchased it for $149 last year and considering its performance in a year of listening, well worth it. The bass is tight with accurate tonal balance as is the midrange. The only minor weakness is a high end that was not quite as smooth as my micro acoustic cartridge or for that matter a live performance. This is very minor though and is still more natural than the shrilly peaky high end I hear on many cd players. The reason I give it 5 stars is now I happily purchase cds.

the unit is very durable! b/c there is no power butto on the reote i leave the unit on 24/7 and no problems so far. I have had the unit for about 1 1/2 years and Im very plese with it. I say that the unit is very durable b/c my unit has gone though a lot of bangs. One time, i left my stereo on while my bro was taking a nap in the next room a i guess he blew a fuse ad went into my room and threw a football at my stereo and it hit the kenwood dead on and knocked it of the stand onto the ground (about a 3ft fall) I set it back up and tested erything in a panic and fund nothing to be wrong with it. Holy cow. I believe Kenwood has struck gold with this unit.

Ease of use, instructions,price

As a basic 5 disc cd player I have found the CD-204 to be an excellent value. I paid $99 for this unit and have been very pleased with the overall performance. The instructions are very straightforward and easy to read. My 7 year old can operate it after only a couple of minutes of basic instruction. Excellent value.

For the money good player. Decent Sound

No power button on remote. When changing discs there is a "grinding" sound like the gears lost a tooth but it still works.

Ok, I have upgraded my good system and this player is delegated to "mop up" duties in the bedroom. However as it may seem it still keeps on working. I've moved 5 times in the 3 years since i've had it and it seems like every time I move, something else in my system doesn't work anymore. Not this.
Sound quality is what you would expect from a $150 dollar changer, but isn't that bad actually. My new system has a 400 dollar Onkyo changer and its almost that good. (The Kenwood doesn't have optical outs and the Onkyo does though...through optical, the Onkyo blows it away).
Yeah, i'd recommend this to a person on a budget, or for a teenagers "first" system. Simple controls, decent sound, good price. There are better in the market, but for any better and you'll be spending much more.

I used to think that talk about tube sound, vinyl sound was a bunch of hooey.This player has a more classic CD sound; it's bright.

This unit will please many listeners, but has its good points and bad points.
It has fantastic imaging, probably due to dual 1-bit D/A converters. The
bass is also some of the best you will find. The ergonomics are very good.
And it's pretty inexpensive.

If you believe "all CD players sound the same, just pick features," then this
could be a great buy for you, especially if you like clean, solid bass. However,
this player can bring out the worst in your CD collection. I found it's upper
mid range and treble output to be grating, possibly distorted. Vocals especially
suffered.

I am taking my back and getting a Denon. Or maybe a Yamaha. They
sound far better to me because they have a viny or tube l sound instead of a CD sound.

I think for the money it is pretty good. I will give 3.5 stars!

This is the first cd changer I bought. For Price/performance, it is hard to beat. Good bass, mids, and highs. There is also a digital volume control which really helps if you don't have a preamp or want to control everything from the remote. The only weakness is the Headphone output. Output is not enough for Headphones like Sennheiser. It is okay for high efficiency headphones though (Grado). Also, there is no digital output. I am planning on upgrading soon by buying a single disc player/transport.
