Beosound 2000 is a 3-in-1 system with built-in active loudspeakers. As with any Bang & Olufsen product, the visual design is given far more importance than the audio quality. (I have a review on Beosound 9000 system in this same forum, and I expressed the same opinion in there.) The system is just 4" deep (and it weighs about 12 Kgs.) so it could be hung in wall as a picture frame. The speaker grill comes with a variety of colors, so blending this system with rest of the surrounding is pretty easy. Here is some positive and negative opinion on this system.
Positive:

1. Good visual design. The glass door slides open when you just wave in front of it and the buttons are laid down in a logical manner. The buttons illuminate based on the source selection, highlighting the functionality available. The CD holder opens vertically and one can see the CD playing.
2. Good speakers. (for the size, at least.) No great bass, but it is still there.
3. Good casette and tuner. FM reception was excellent and AM is pretty good too.
4. Good remote controller. (Beo4.)

Negative:

1. Poor CD quality. I found, the audio quality of other CD players far superior compared to this one.
2. When the glass door closes automatically after some 30 seconds or so, it doesn't recognize any object in the lower part of the system like casette deck. If you place your fingers in the casette deck and the door closes, it jams your fingers inside. So much for the visual design!
3. While the remote is good, it is very heavy.
4. The speakers are not detatchable.

As with any B&O product, you pay 60% for the visual design and about 40% for audio quality. Not a great system to own (like Beosound 9000, for example.) but could be an excellent bedroom CD player.

I would rate CD player at 2, rest of the system at 4, visual design at 5 and a overall of 4.

Excellent decoration and nothing else. Sound quality is decent for the size but the price is too high even for the quality of "the art". Then again, it all comes down to satisfaction. If you're more concerned about impressing guests than performance then I guess it's worth it. For me, I'd rather spend the money on a timeless piece of Chinese oil painting. Heck, I'd probably have more luck impressing "loaded" people that way. The same thing does not apply to B&O phones however. They are deliciously artistic and match well with most home furnishings.

Raghavendra, I must say that you give very fair and well written product reviews. I've owned a Beosound 2000 (called Beosound Century in Europe) for 3 years now, and I've been quite satisfied with it. However, I do have some qualms:
1) Glass door isn't as easy to open as the larger Beosound Ouverture or Beocenter 2300.
2) NO headphones or Line-out jacks (I've heard newer versions do though).
3) You can't change the CD display on the unit from the remote! (exp. from track no. to time elapsed to time remaining)
4) NO programming or repeat.
5) Atrocious cassette recorder.
And finally,
6) CD player is starting to make weird click-click noises (audible at low volumes, but no effect on sound).

However, all these are minor considering what this thing is meant for: casual listening. Seeing your friends gawk over it as if it were some precious monument is enough to make you forget about these problems. Remember, my grumble list is only from owning and scrutinizing the thing for 3 whole years. It is, in the end, a very good product.

Great conversation piece. Elegant design, fits in anywhere. Sound is good, but not the best. Best at lower to mid volumes. Nice piece for a bedroom. Great remote that comes with it.
