Picture Quality

Zoom Feature

Mistubishi's picture is unbeatable. I was fortunate enough to be able to compare several competitors sets in my home and there is no comparison. I had an 11 year old Mistubishi 42" previous to this with only one minor problem requireing a technician. About a month after delivery of my new 60803 a power module went out and was replaced by Mitsubishi within 48 hours. I am confident this one will perform as well. The zoom feature for picture-in-picture is something they could have left out, but it works. The sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, but I route my sound through a home theater surround sound system, so it is not a problem to me. I picked mine up for under 3k, shop around and find the best deal. I would recommend this set to anyone who is demanding a quality picture and great value.

Strength:

Great picture and control, DVD component jacks, plenty of input jacks including front S-video in for camcorder attachment, elegant appearance

Weakness:

No S-Video out, proprietary HDTV connectors

This is a great set well ahead of its time, offering a great value overall. Unfortunately, to connect an HDTV receiver, you'll need a special adapter or an early Mitsubishi receiver since these early Mitsubishi sets had a proprietary interface. Fortunately, I'm told that Mitsubishi is making the adapter available inexpensively.

Strength:

This set has a great picture and is built very sound.

Weakness:

Zoom aspect,Remote,

I had to have the set replaced due to a consistent 'popping' sound causing the set to flicker or power down. Occasionally the set would lose the menu system and show an input in only black and white. Mits. cust service was of little or no help, and the dealer, Sound Advice, gave me the run around about replacement until I wrote them a letter. Otherwise, I like the set but would advise any purchaser to check out carefully your retailers return & repair policy.

Strength:

picture resolution very good, color saturation good even at low levels, screen bright even viewed from side.

Weakness:

can't say much for zoom feature, picture in picture very basic but adequate

Very impressive hdtv picture. Set was easy to setup and auto audio level function for independent channels make previously annoying audio adjustments from channel to channel unnecessary. The audio system hardware is not what I would call outstanding....only 2, 5 inch speakers in cabinet, but since I route audio through a surround sound system this is of little consequence. The cabinet finish on this model is really striking, although it is only veneer on particalboard; if you don't ding it, it is beautiful. I can't detect any scan lines from about 10 ft. viewing distance which makes this picture quality rival 16mm projection resolution to the naked eye. My last set lasted 10 years before it finally stoped working. I just hope this set is as trouble free and lasts as long. The zoom feature is the only feature I found that was really poorly conceived. If you can't do something in a quality way, it's probably best just to omit it. However, for 2700 i'm not complaining. Look around at your home theatre stores for models at yearend closeout prices and your sure to find something at a bargan also.

This TV is the best made in the world. It's a steal even if you pay retail (go to Netmarket.com- you can get it for around $3750.00. Mitsubishi is light years ahead of anyone else in this field. When you compare the picture on this TV to others, it'sa like night and day. I highly reccomend this TV.
