Strength:

has good picture on hdtv side, but cable is a little blurry.

Weakness:

changing from standard tv to hdtv alittle slow.

I PURCHASED HITACHI 61HDX98B IN OCTOBER OF 2000 FROM SEARS (WHICH I WILL NEVER DO AGAIN) THE TV WORKED GREAT FOR AWHILE THEN THE REMOTE WENT CRAZY AND THE MAGIC FOCUS WENT OUT. SEARS HAD TO REPLACE THE MAIN COMPUTER BOARD, THEN I GOT A NEW PROBLEM THE TV SHUTS DOWN EVERY 28 MINUTES. THE SEARS REPAIRMAN HAVE BEEN TO MY HOUSE ABOUT EIGHT TIMES AND IT STILL ISN'T FIXED AS OF 3-13-2001. THE PARTS ARE BACK ORDER FROM THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, THEY SAY IT WILL BE MID APRIL BEFORE THEY ARE IN. I LIKE THE TV VERY MUCH EXCEPT FOR A FEW SHORTCOMINGS. THE BIG PROBLEM IS SEARS BUYS THE TVS WITHOUT A WARRANTY FROM THE MANUFACTURES AND PROVIDES SERVICE THEMSELVES. WITCH SEARS DIDN'T DISCLOSE UNTIL AFTER I NEED WORK DONE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS FIND OUT WHO WILL SERVICE YOUR TV BEFORE YOU BUY.

Strength:

Good picture when it works

Weakness:

When it doesn't work, no one seems to be able to fix it.

Ok, so I get the set in late January and it's really pretty cool- until it won't turn on any more early in April. It gets hauled away in a huge truck, and that's the last I've seen of it. Parts have been on order, the wrong parts are delivered, they are close, then not close, the repair place is waiting on Hitachi, Hitachi is waiting on the repair place. They need my remote to do more testing??? (I half expect to walk into a bar someplace and see my tv showing ESPN)They put my service center on hold for two hours when they try to contact them. Finally Hitachi contacts my repair place - Hurray! but the part is on back-order and is several weeks away - next stop August/September...I talk to a supervisor at Hitachi earlier this week, someone will definitely call on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week with a status, any guesses as of Friday night? I don't know if it's the TV, the organization, or their support network, but please take my advice and steer clear, good product, abysmal support....

I know this site is for the review of the 61hdx98b but I purchased a 61sbx59b and did not see a category to review it, so I am doing so here. I purchased the 61sbx59b about a month and a half ago and I am VERY VERY Happy with the set. I have it coupled with my Sony DSS system and a Pioneer DVD player, and the picture quality is EXCELLENT. I have never really been a Projection TV fan, and my previous set was a top of the line 32" Sony XBR (which now resides in the bedroom and still has an AWESOME picture), but after researching the big screens for over a month before making a purchase decision, I can say that I am a very big fan NOW. I purchased my set and the 5 year service contract and extended warranty for under $3000 at my local HH Gregg store. Considering my SONY (which I love, by the way) cost more than this when I purchased it, and I almost doubled my viewing size, I AM extremely satisfied with the transaction. GO GET ONE!!!!

Strength:

Great Picture Quality, Simplistic Menu

Weakness:

Not enough HDTV available yet

When I had seen this Projection Set two years ago, I was in awe when I saw my first HDTV picture. At a list price of $8000.00 I figured eventually prices would come down. Of course, now that the set is listing at 5000.00 on Circuit City's Web Site, I was curious at what I could buy it at the store for. The set I purchased was an open box buy. I was hesitant to say the least at buying this open box, but after I got the low down on the set's history, I felt better. Apparently someone purchased it, and could not fit it in their Ent Center, thus returned it the same day. Anyway, I find that the picture is of great quality, and my DVD's have never looked better. The HD sat signal is also great except that DTV only offers two HD channels right now....very frustrating to say the least. Anyway, if you can pick one up for 3150.00 like I did, I think you are getting a terrific value. Also, check the back of the set if you find an open box, it will show you the manufacturing date....My set happens to only be less than three months old according to its born on date.
