TAZSMONN
an Audiophile

HI, I'M TAZSMONN AND YOUR NOT!
I LIKE TO HAVE THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE,AND IF YOU CAN GET
THEM AT A GOOD PRICE ALL THE BETTER RIGHT! THIS IS WHY I OWN
A BI-AMPED SYSTEM AND BUILT MY OWN SUBWOOFER. A THREE 18 INCH
DRIVER ONE TO BE PRECISE, IT'S BASS PERFORMANCE IS NOTHING
SHORT OF EXCELLENT FROM 16.5hz ON UP WITH A 99spl. I RUN A
PAIR OF MAGNAPAN MMG'S AS THE STEREO PAIR. LAST JANUARY 98 I
STARTED LOOKING INTO GETTING A MATCHING SET OF AMPS. I HAD
JUST CONVERTED MY DYNACO Mk.4's TO TRIODE PUSH PULL AMPS.
THIS WAS QUITE NICE SOUNDING. EXCEPT FOR THE HIGH TREBLE WHICH
LACKED A BIT. THE ADCOM ON THE SUBWOOFER WAS REAL GOOD BUT I
JUST FELT I COULD DO BETTER, SOMETHING SUBTLE LACKING IN THE
BASS. I HAD BEEN AUDITIONING AMPS AND SAVING CASH FOR SOME
TIME ALREADY AND THE ONES I HAD LIKED WERE THE VTL WOBEN 300w
AT THE PRINCELY SUM OF ABOUT $16,000. THE AMP FROM ACROSS THE
RIVER TH ATMA-SPHERE 60w IS $3400 AND RISING. THE SE 40 FROM
GOLDEN DRAGON, $980 LAST I HEARD. I HAVE LISTENED TO ALL 3 OF
THESE AMPS FOR 2 OR 3 HOURS EACH, ALL 3 SOUND VERY CLEAR,
DETAILED, AND HAVE VERY NICE SOUND STAGING. ALL 3 HAVE 2 DRAW
BACKS TOO MUCH HEAT AND POWER OUTPUT. I FOUND THAT AT MAXIMUM
LEVEL I PUT OUT 2w TO THE SUBWOOFER AND 12db LESS TO THE
MMG'S. WHAT I NEEDED WAS AN AMP THAT PUT OUT 2w TO 4w AND DID
NOT EMPLOY TUBES THAT NEED 30w FOR THE HEATERS.

A TRIODE AMP WAS NOW A MUST AND I FELT THAT A TRIODE
CONNECTED PENTODE TUBE AMP WAS ALSO ACCEPTABLE. AN SE WOULD
BE NICE BUT I HAD NOT FOUND ANY THAT USED A TUBE THAT WAS
SMALLER IN HEATER SIZE OR PRICE. THE AMP I WANTED DID NOT EXIST, YET!
WELL I THOUGHT I'D GET ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF I CAN FIND
SOMETHING TO BUILD, BECAUSE GOD AND SANDRA KNOW I HAVE THE
BRAINS AND THE PARTS TO DO IT. IN MY SEARCH I FOUND SOMETHING
OUT, I'D RATHER LISTEN TO MUSIC THAN BUILD AN AMP AND HAVE
THE POWER SUPPLY CAPS BLOW ON ME!

THEN I FOUND IT. SAS AUDIO LABS SE 4.6. IT'S A WONDERFUL
LITTLE AMP WITH BIG SOUND. IT'S SONICS ARE AS GOOD OR BETTER
THEN THE AMPS MENTIONED ABOVE. THE TONAL CHARACTER FROM BASS
TO HIGH TREBLE IS PERFECTLY EVEN, NOTHING STICKS OUT OR IS
BLOATED. THE BASS IS GREAT, ADJUSTING THE FEEDBACK LEVEL TO IT'S
LOWEST SETTING YOU'LL DISCOVER JUST WHAT IS WRONG WITH OTHER
AMPS, TO MUCH FEEDBACK LIKE TO MUCH GOVERNMENT IS A VERY BAD
THING AND AT THIS SETTING THE BASS BECOMES VERY AIRY,DEEP,
DYNAMIC, AND POWERFUL. MUCH MORE REAL THAN ANY SYSTEM WITH
LOTS OF FEEDBACK. THE MIDRANGE/ TREBLE ARE SO DELICATLY
PRESENTED THAT LAST NIGHT I MISTOOK A WOMEN'S VOICE FOR
SANDRA'S. SHE FOUND THIS AMUSING. SANDRA HAS ALSO MENTIONED
THE NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN CLARITY THE SYSTEM HAS. THE SOUND
STAGING IS VERY WIDE FRONT TO BACK AND LEFT TO RIGHT. I WAS
SO IMRESSED WITH THE PERFORMANCE THAT I HAVE PURCHASED A
THIRD AMP. NOW I HAVE THE MMG'S MONO BLOCKED FOR ADDED
HEADROOM AND PERFORMANCE.

THE SAS AUDIO LABS SITE IS AT http://www.sasaudiolabs.com
THEY ARE REALLY GREAT AT REPLYING TO E-MAILS. I HAD SEVERAL
QUESTIONS BEFORE I MADE MY FIRST ORDER, ALL OF TESE WERE
REPLIED TO.
