Strength:

This amplifer has a great sound, highest built quality and classic McIntosh looks.

Weakness:

none

The quality of this integrated amplifer is unique only to McIntosh. From the beauiful etched glass front panel to the quite operating controls, this amplifer is built to last. This amplifer is rated at a very conservative 100 watts per channel. The speakers in my system are Klipch Forte's, my normal listening level is one watt per channel. At ten watts per channel the sound is over powering, with a solid tight bass and the crytal clear highs this ampliper has power to spare. A McIntosh exclusive Power Guard feature prevents the amp. from clipping which distorts the signal and is harmful to the speakers. When listening to classical music with a high dynamic range the Power Guard feature is very useful. I'm using this amplifer with a McIntosh MR7084 tuner, this combination works well together. The remote control for the amp. also controls the tuner. I bought my first McIntosh equipment in the 1970's, a MA6100 integrated amplifer and a MR74 tuner. When I sold this equipment I got more than the original price. What else can you buy that is built to last, uses only the highest quality components and sounds as good as this amplifer.

Strength:

Great sound, remote control, built to last, BEAUTIFUL!

Weakness:

Non-audio types think it's from the seventies

I really love this integrated amp. The sound is wonderful. I will simply say that this amp allows music to sound the way I have always thought that it should.

I can't say enough good things about the MA6450. This thing is a steal new at the retail price of $2200 (which I would gladly pay again) and now I have seen a couple of them used on Ebay for around $1200!

If you're considering a solid state integrated amp make sure you try this one.

Strength:

Built sturdily, remote control ability for additional McIntosh components, sounds as nice at low volumes and high. A really nice looking unit.

Weakness:

Much larger chassis than the MA6200 I had. Runs very warm when idle. Spacing for RCA jacks made the large Tributaries RCA plugs a tight fit.

I traded in my 17 tear old McIntosh MA6200 for the MA6450.
I never considered anything but McIntosh based on the performance of the MA6200 and the high quality standards of McIntosh. It sounds as nice as any of the Krell, Jolida or Levinson amps I've heard. The ability to control my MR7084 tuner with the MA6450 remote control was a big plus (just need to buy a 1/8" stereo phono cable to connect the two).

Weakness:

It does not have balanced inputs.

I have this amp for 2 weeks and I am impress of its capabilities. It has clear, undistorted sound with really good, tight bass.I use it to drive apair of 805 Nautilus speakers and they really perform excelent.I Bi-Wired them with the new cable QED Genesis Silver Spiral and I am relly impress with the sound. It is build to last with its 19 kgr.The only "problem" is tha it has no balanced inputs. The model is not old (2 years) and it had to have balanced inputs.I am thinking to make a HT with McIntosh compoments,we will see.
