The AW70, which according to EC distributor is renamed but identical in all respects to the AW220, can also run in mono mode and produce 220 watts. Despite the fact that it is 70/120W solid state it has tubelike mids and highs (overall sound is more like an warm-sounding tube hybrid amp with nice stability and enough bass control) - very much like the sound of the more expensive EC equipment. AW 70 & EC 4.7 tandem easily outperformed integrated McIntosh 6300 in my back to back testing. Don't be fooled by the 2x70 watts rating in stereo. More important is that the amplifier is capable of dealing with the impedance swings (my loudspeakers are rather difficult in this aspect). Overall sound of the amp is very coherent. Build quality is second to none and the visual presentation is nothing short of stunning!
