Strength:

clean and natural high smooth mid good base

Weakness:

not karismatic design ^^

nowadays, many poweramps play thin mid, much high.. but when we hear the classics, we find that kind of harsh sound can't move our musical feeling. especially piano concertos and so forth.. 400r plays instrumentals and vicals very well with worm mid, clear high, powerful base.. i've used many of counterpoint products.. when i compare to others, i can hear these plays well in many fields of music then similer grade amps.. and this is real 200w/ch/8ohm, 400w/ch/4ohm so i can't feel any lack or lose base when matching a lot of loud speaker. and if someone have this, i want to tell him to change default 6dj8 to Amperex Buggle-boy. and short the ground pin in the input circuit bord(right place in front of view)

This amp is the culmination of knowledge, philosophy, and engineering by the designer, Mike Elliott. Its bipolar concept is incorporated from the ealier SA-220 amplifier, which gained a fame very quickly from its sonic quality. It retains the power, 200 WPC @8 ohms, yet very natural flowing of music without any stress. One might say it is laid back but I hear these through my Snell C-V($2800)speakers, and its power is revealed as soon as it is turned up over 50% of the volume knob. It is driven by another Counterpoint Preamp SA-5000 fully modified, which adds clearity and transparency beyond any preamp available in market. I have tried two NPS-400's in monoblock configurations, and its depth of sound is doubled to an extent that the Snell C-V could not handle. This mono setup could drive speaker system costing $20,000.00. I give full 5 stars for this unequally designed amplifier.
